| AHH! Snake Season! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Yuck! I just got in from walking the boys and I saw a big chicken snake!!! And believe me, I ran all the way home, I HATE SNAKES... They scare me sooo much!! I'm so worried that Tucker or Tripp will get bitten by one! Any suggestions on what to do? We will be moving into our new house at the end of the summer and the boys will have full run of their own yard, I don't want them to get hurt!!

| I'd freak too! What's a chicken snake? Do they eat chickens???? If so, a Yorkie would be no problem for them!!

| Maybe you should hold off on the walking if they scare you that much. Are they Dangerous? I have never heard of that type of snake before.

| I do not think they are extremely poisinous (they're black with white stripes, I'm pretty sure. I described it to my father, and he told me that was it probably), but I do know they go after chicken eggs and such. I hope not whole chickens... I'll have to ask about that... But still, any bite would hurt them!! And yeah, I think the walks are gonna slow down a bit, I hate snakes!!!

| I have been getting information on a product called snake away, and as long as you put it on the outside of the fence and your dogs can not get to it they will be fine. also you can use moth balls (they smell loud though, the snake away smells like moth balls) and sulfur if you can stand the smell of it. a friend was telling me about soaking ropes in something the other day and laying them outside the fence. i'll have to check with her again on that one.

| Thanks for the advice!! I do have an outdoor cat though, and he does kill some of the snakes (he's very tough and somewhat feral) but not all of them ,so I'll have to see about it affecting him if he gets into it somehow. I'll check on the Snake Away, thanks again!

| I am pretty sure chicken snakes are not poisonous but just a bother on a farm for chicken eggs and small rodents. We have snakes over here on my side of town too. For about two months when the weather warms up, I go out and make lots of noise before I do anything in the yard!!!!! |

| I couldn't find anything on Google about chicken snakes being poisonous to dogs but if you do kill one (otherwise known as a 'witch snake') you will incur some serious bad luck apparently http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/...s/FF/ldf2.html And I wouldn't worry too much. In my experience of growing up with animals in Africa, they tend to have a natural instinct to stay away from certain things like snakes and scorpions and so on |
