Vacation Ok so I am leaving for a week tomorrow morning and unfortunatley my baby cannot come with me. However, my old roomate is gonna take care of him since he knows her best. She can't take him up to her place because of a mean cat so he is going to stay at home. She will feed him and spend most of the day with him except a few hours at night for school. Only thing is she has this thing about sleeping in her bed. So my question is.. .Is it mean or just not right if after being with him all day and after school she goes to sleep upstairs and comes down in the am? He is usually in the crate thru the night anyway. So will he be ok sleeping down here without her here? Any info would help. I am very sad and worried right now. I don't want him to be as unhappy away from me as I will be from him (the first time I am going to wake up without him there )

| Leave him a few worn shirts or something of yours with your scent on it. Good Luck! I'm sure everything will be fine.

Yes I always leave something with my scent on it for him. I am sure I am just over reacting.. Now that the time is getting closer I am getting more upset... I have never spent the night away from him how am I going to make it thru a week. But then on the brighter side if I dont have to clean up pee then it might not be that bad...lol thanks for the advice!

I apologize for bumping this back up with no real reason, but I am leaving in about 3 hours for the airport and as my baby sleeps on my lap right now I am getting more upset. I never imagined my first time away from him would be so hard

I had my dog for more than three years before I had ever spent one night away from her --- and then I went on a week's vacation without her. I missed her so much and could hardly wait to see her. When I got home, I raced into the house, and she was so excited to see me ---- for about 10 minutes, and then she was off doing her usual things as though I had never been gone. Dog's live in the moment! .... You know how they're just as happy to see us when we go to the mailbox as they are when we've been gone all day. Enjoy your vacation - or time away from home. I can promise you that this separation is going to be a hundred times harder for you than it will be for the pup. Why can't she take his crate to her bedroom in the evening when she goes to bed. He might like the trip. My pup loves to sleep around. He'll sleep with anyone that stays overnight in any bedroom at my house. He just loves everyone! But I guarantee, he does want to be with someone. Carol Jean PS: You don't need to leave any items with your scent on them.....Your pup will be able to smell you all over the house. He probably even knows the brand of perfume you wear!
