Picking my yorkie up tomorrow!!! So i'm picking up Diesel tomorrow..so excited. Any last minute advice/tips on easing his transition into my home???? |
You can take a blanket and let his litter mates lay on it and play with it for awhile so their scent is on it. I would also recommend letting your pup rest as much as you can cause your baby will be tired and scared. You can also put a stuffed animal in his crate. I know it seems harsh putting them in a crate but actually he will learn to feel safe in it. It's like their own little space and comfort zone. Oh and CONGRADS ON THE NEW BABY.. :aimeeyork |
I can't wait to see pictures. Just let him adjust like Tashasmom said. Have nutrical on hand and enjoy! |
Thanks guys...keep 'em comming!!!! |
congrats on your to-be baby! cant wait for info and pics! good luck! |
Welcome to YT. The place where you can obsess about your Yorkie and no one will think you've gone off the deep end. :) Advice for new parents Put karo in the water for a while to keep sugar level up in case he doesn't eat much at first. Think of him as an infant, not a dog. Congratulations!!! Can't wait to see pictures. |
Congratulations! I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you as I won't be picking up my puppy for another three months or so (if all goes well). But what everyone else said is great advice! |

When I went with my friend to pick up her puppy, she threw up on the ride home. Is there something new owners should do on the drive home to avoid car sickness or was this just her being nervous? (our drive is 2.5 hours) Thanks, and I hope that you do not mind me butting in on your thread, I thought the topics were smiliar enough. |
Good luck upon getting your new pup, cant wait to hear all about the new baby, and cant wait to see pics :) |
Welcome to YT and congratulations on your puppy's arrival . . . . I bet you will have a sleepless night until he comes home tomorrow! I myself am having a puppy but she still way to young to take home . . . Have fun with your furbaby and give him lots of TLC. . . .love the name! |
If it's a long trip bring some water. I agree with Tashasmom - let him rest, don't overwhelm him (with people coming over to see him or if you have kids). Congratulations. |
Congratulations of a new member of the family..I'm sure everything will go smooth. ...Lots of cuddles and love and in no time you will forget what it was like before Diesel...Welcome to YT....can't wait to see pics. |
congrats on your new baby...i know how exciting it is to be picking up your new baby...i just got my baby about a week ago and he is so sweet...i just love him so much he is the little boy i never had in my eyes |
YAY!! I am so jealous! I still have a little over a month..I think everyone pretty much has it covered so have fun with him and post pics for us ;) |
to the girl that asked about getting car sick (i forget your name i'm sorry) some pups and dogs will get sick and some don't. Some will outgrow it and some won't. As far as I know there is nothing you can do other than maybe pepto bismol if they have an upset stomache but I don't think I would give it to them for being car sick. I doubt it will help. It has to do with the motion that gets some of them sick. What you can do is bring a pet taxi and put your pup in that. It may help keep him calm and therefore ease his nerves. To the original poster..one thing I can't stress enough..take your vet to the vet after you get him home. Alot of contracts will be null and void if you don't do this. There are alot of breeders that have a guarantee but only if your pet is vet checked within the time limit your contract says. So get him or her a check up to be safe. Also before you sign the contract make sure you have read EVERY word and don't be afraid to ask the breeder questions about her contract. A contract is one of the most important things when purchasing your new pup. It protects you the owner and the breeder.. |
Thanks for all of the great tips!!! Going to pick him up in an hour! |
OH my goodness!! How exciting!! Try to drive slow and not get a speeding ticket!!! :p |
