i had the same problem with my two. its been 4 months and they are now pals. muffy was 8lbs and kirby 4lbs. it was very difficult and a 24-7 job but i had to watch them all of the time. if you have the patience, i think it will work out. good luck and i feel your pain. |
Chachi was a little rough with Jewels when she was little but as she got older she is able to hold her own. I just think ou need to give it time. The small one will grow up. |
WOW, I just spent time with my morning coffee reading all of this. You guys really are great, and when I first got Jack this site really helped. I hope this lady gives her big guy some time to ajust to the little guy. If my older Son had his way, he would be an only child. He was jealous of both of his siblings when they were born. So, when you adopt a Yorkie or any other breed, they are your babies, and you should treat them as such. Give them time, and again, if it is an issue of not "wanting" a bigger dog then find a home immediatly to make sure he doesn't have to go through this again, finding his own place in the world. I have 15 grandchildren ranging from 20 pounds to 100 pounds, and believe me I love them all the same. (even when THEY bounce off the walls). OK, I have had my 2 cents worth, now time to go to work with my furbaby Jack. |
I just wanted to clarify that the "big one" is only 12 weeks old, or there abouts, he's 4.5 lbs at 12 weeks so full grown he will probably be in the 10-12 range. Not that that's big either. |
When I first got Bella, Louie was just about a yr. old, and we had had him since 18 wks. Louie is probobly 5.5 to 6lbs. Bella was 1.8lbs I think when we got her at 16 weeks. We took Louie with us when we bought her and when we got home I put her in the pen and let Louie stand outside of it and just sort of get used to her. We gave him lots of attention and love, and then a little at a time we would put Louie in the pen with her (under constant supervision of course). It was a little scary at first because he seemed SO much bigger than her, and she was a little spit fire (still is) lol. But when things looked a little too rough we would take Louie out for a little bit and just tell him easy....easy and it really only took about a week before I was completely comfortable with them playing together ALL of the time. Maybe you could try something like that. But I figured that this was LOUIE'S territory FIRST so I did not want him to feel that this little girl was coming in and taking over and getting all of our love. Its the same thing as when I had a 3 yr. old and brought home the new baby. You kinda have to overcompensate the love so that they KNOW they are still loved and NOONE is going to take their place. I hope that this helped. Good Luck to you. Tami |
pups Little pups must be protected from big pups...even in a litter. Tike is acting exactly the way a 12 week old acts...so you need a pen. You will have to alternate with them until they mature and can act better towards each other. Get a big play pen and set it up in your living area...this really is no different then having human children..a new baby and a rowdy 2 yr old...good luck PS..I guess I make everything sound so easy to manage, but with a gated area or pen, it will help so much...if not, why not place Tike..he does need to be a puppy and be rowdy. |
Before we waste anymore time on this..are you wanting advice so you can keep him or are you wanting advice so you can find him a new home? that would help me better advise you if I knew what I was giving you advice on.. |
MARYKAY.... at this point, i seriously confused by everything (in this and all the other threads you've started regarding the same topic) you've said. you've said that: - Tike will get too big, you don't want him - Tike beats up on the smaller puppy, you don't want him - Tike beats up on the 4 year old dog (Benji?), you don't want him - Tike bounces off the walls, your husband doesn't want him etc etc. i mean seriously, in the past few weeks, Tike has been taken from his mother and littermates and gone from a breeder (possibly a puppymill) to a pet store, then from a pet store to you. He's been with you for 2 weeks, 1 of which he had kennel cough and 1 of which consisted of the new smaller pup which you keep with you at all times...i mean, when in his life has he had the opportunity to learn to socialize??? It seems like every week is a new consideration, either by you or your husband to give him away. so at this point, imho, i think you should seriously consider giving Tike to another home, and reconsider a situation where there are more than 2 dogs at home. (what will happen when the 4 year old dog is rough playing with the smaller puppy even without Tike there? will you give up the 4 year old dog too? ) i think if you love Tike and care for him as much as you say you do, then you should give him the opportunity to thrive in a loving home where he is wanted and his new family will invest the time and effort to teach him good habits, rather than to scorn him for doing what puppies do. he deserves to have that opportunity before he starts to develop some real behavioral problems. if neither you nor your husband really wants to keep him around, then please, let him go. good luck. |
Are we all on Internet Candid Camera here? Seriously . I'm actually speechless, for once... :scratchhe |
