| Parker Hates Being Brushed ok, I need some more help and advice. Parker hates being brushed. He goes nuts. Biting the brush like he is a little wild man. Its funny, but I'm having trouble. I wanted to start brushing him early so that he is use to it. Any suggestions. I started with the soft brush. He's 12 weeks old. |

| Sirius was the same way in the beginning- hes 6 months now. i did exactly what snickersmom suggested- i brushed him when he was very relaxed, usually when he was about to fall asleep. the more you do it the more they get used to it. just make sure you start off when he's very relazed and not jumpy or anxious, that will only make him more excited and crazy! siri still attacks the brush but only when im brushing his legs :] it just takes them a while to get used to it! hope i helped a bit!

| I can only comb Reggie when he's almost asleep but he's getting better now. I also do only small amounts at a time and I try very hard not to pull the tangles. I try to coax them out with the comb so it doesn't hurt him. He doesn't mind being combed but when he's feeling energetic, everything is a play toy to him. Good Luck!

| I always give TootieBear a chewie while he is brushing. He loves to bite the brush and steal it.... but if he has something else to chew, he is ok with it. d

| Brushing When I started brushing Chewie he would also attack the brush. I started giving him a treat and calling him a 'Good Boy" and he started associating brushing with treats. Now he enjoys it and he doesn't have to have one. He is 5 months old now. |

| My dog has always hated being brushed. He would even show all of his teeth to me.My groomer suggested to brush him every day when he is sleepy, but in a designated place. Like a table with a towel on it. It took like a week and now he is completely fine with it. |

| Stomper is the same way and I don't think he will out grow it. I usually give him little treats for letting me brush him.

| Puppies need a lot of handling so they get used to it, which includes brushing. I got down on their level and massaged around their face, ears, hiney, etc. a lot. Then, when I brush them, I always am above their level, I put them on the counter and stand, all the time quietly telling them how good they are, how pretty they look and when finished, give them a treat. Now that they are grown, I can brush, tell them to come to me to get their hair put up out of their face, bathe, brush their teeth, just about anything, without a problem. The trick is often and starting young, as soon as they are in your home. About the only problem I have with them now is Chloe and her heartworm medicine. No kidding, she will hear the foil when I push the pill out of the wrapper and will run and hide. I've tried everything but have to practically put in down her throat in pieces. When she was a puppy, I'd just break it up and she'd gobble it down, don't know what happened. Any suggestions on getting this problem to go away? |
