It is nice to see that people are passionate about their views. Personally I would have loved for Punkin to have had her full tail. I can just imagine how cute it woud be. I cringe at the thought and feel weak in the knees about them having it done. I'm not good about things like this. I also think that tail docking for non-medical reasons is like cosmetic surgery except people make the choice for themselves and dogs have someone else make it for them. Just my opinion. Alexis |

It is obvious no one is going to agree here. My bone to pick is with the creators of this so-called "standard". Why should we be bullied into mutilating our dogs because a bunch of snobs who gave themselves the power to dictate what our dogs should look like say so. It is ridiculous to put so much stock into this. Granted I agree completely with preserving the integrity of the dogs by breeding out genetic defects and other health related issues. But when we start lopping off parts of our animals bodies, just because the all-mighty "standard" says so, I think we stop being thinking and rational individuals and become a bunch of robots who just follow along. |
If I were against something like docking tails (which i'm not against it) I wouldn't be sporting a yorkie that has a docked tail. If you all are so against it..buy yorkies WITH tails. You are acting like we cut off the head. It's a tail. My gosh humans allow their boys to be circumcized and you don't hear them saying anything against that but take of a yorkies tail and we are a bunch of murdering heathens. |
Hmmm, interesting reading! :) I personally wish that tails were not docked. As a breeder that tries to follow the standard, I do it because of just that. I wish it wasn't that way. I do leave my tails a bit longer than some though. I think a dog shows it's feelings with it's tail and I like for them to have something to hold high and wag. I do not like the "nubs" that some do. My girl Mimi was not from my breeding. She came to me already docked to a nub. I make sure that in my breedings that mine don't look like bob tail cats. There is always going to be a debate over docking. Like I said I personally wish the standard didnt' call for it. But in our country it does so I will continue to follow it until I am given other options. |
I probably sounded harsh in that last post. I guess I don't see it the way most do. Either way I've stated my preference and I"m not against others preference. I don't think it's inhumaine and don't really understand why some do but I respect their preference. That said i'm off to another thread lol.. |
Necee~ You are right, everyone is not going to agree...and rest assured, for what it's worth, your points have not fallen upon deaf ears. To add to that, off subject, IMO there was a point in time where a thread such as this would have resulted in a big ole padlock before the end of page 1. Although I don't always agree with them, I do enjoy reading and trying to understand the view points of others. I think people take more notice and consideration of those when we are able to respect, not neccessarily agree with, but respect the feelings of others. (Sounding very Mr. Rogers, I know..."please won't you be, my neighbor...Hi Neighbor!) |
as yorkies come from the uk :aimeeyork it was the norm to have them docked but times change and im glad they do,as it will be illegal soon in the uk. i think its cruel but i also think thats just cos thats now the norm and we now know more about it. |
I am for docking a yorkie tail and a cocker tail and a schnauzer tail oh....I guess any breed that has a docked tail I am for. I don't see the harm in it. Oh, by the way all of my boys were circemcized too. (human) Any way I agree with the post that said don't buy one with a docked tail if you don't want a docked tail. I don't do the docking personally I leave that to my vet. Any way I am for docking. If it were ever outlawed I guess I just wouldn't own a dog that was suppose to have a docked tail. :) |

We can debate this issue until the year 3,000 and people will still hold fast to their opinions. The key is to remain respectful of others opinions and value everyone's views. I must say it has been enjoyable discussing this issue with you all and I am glad we were able to remain civil on a topic that evokes so many passionate feelings. :) |
