| When do the colors change? My baby is 7 months old and he still has a very black back. His face has just about turned a light reddish color. The only "Blue" I see in him is just on his shoulders and the top of thighs. He has a few silver hairs here and there on his back. It almost looks like a person with black hair just starting to get a few white hairs. Now this may be a fault I don't know. But I LOVE the way he looks. As soon as I can figure out how to post a picture I will get a new one up. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali is 8 1/2 months old and is still all black on her body also. She has maybe 2-3 gray hairs on her one shoulder. She isn't real silky though. I can't wait to see pictures of him.

| The mom's back was actually a little on the dark side now that I look back on the pics. I couldn't tell much with the dad. She had his cut really short but he was still rather dark. Neither one had hair as dark as Diesel's but rather a very very dark gray. Now if that made any sense at all then I am doing good. LOL |

| Do you know what type of texture his coat is, silk, modified silk or cotton/soft? If does not sound like silk, but more like modified silk or cotton/soft coat.. Normally they say if a yorkie puppy is going to be silk coated you will see their coat start to breakout around 9-12 weeks of age.. Which I have personally noticed with my silk coated puppies.. If they are modified silk or soft/cotton coat it can sometimes take up to two years to completely clear, which means the blue/gold color.. I have also noticed the modified coat will clear before a soft/cotton coat will.. Sometimes a soft/cotton coat will not clear completely and that will give the dog a sooty look on the head or face or both.. Sometimes they will also have what is referred to as a thumbprint on the top of their head.. Also on the modified silk the blue on the back will be a dark blue and on a soft/cotton coat the back is usually black.. |

| Ok lets see if this works. I don't think he is silk. His hair is very soft almost like cotton but it doesn't tangle a lot at all. |

| My yorkie is 2 1/2 months, and the roots of his black hair are already silver. It is so interesting because a week ago his hair was completely black & tan. He is so cute!!

| My pup like some of yours had completely changed colors by four months. I would guess also that he has a silky coat - because I can comb it once a week and it is perfectly wonderful - never a tangle. Check your puppy's roots. This will tell you if there is any color change coming. I noticed that my pup had about 1/4th inch of what looked like white hair coming in when I got him at 8 weeks - and with a few haircuts (because his puppy hair was so terrible), I soon had a very light tan and silver Yorkie. His hair seems to grow very fast. It's interesting watching these little guys grow and seeing their color changes, isn't it? I doubt many of us care what color our pups end up being. Most of us aren't showing our dogs -- and all the different colors are beautiful. Carol Jean |

Breakout??? Thumbprint??? What does that mean?? Bella is so incredibly soft, and thick! She is 7 weeks, when can you start to tell the texture? Does the baby hair have to fall out?? I had She-Ra from a baby and hers took forever to even grow, and I got Harley at 3 months, so I didn't get to see his spurt either. Sharon says that Sophie, Bella's mom is blue and tan and I know that her male Kirby is Blue/tan. Think that Bella will too???

| Oscar is 17 months old and his back is still VERY black with the silver at the shoulders and top of the thighs. We keep him clipped at about 2 inches over the body and his coat at this lenght is actually kind of curly. His color has changed very little from the time we got him at 8 weeks. We love the black color tho...he has several shades of red on his face...really pretty colors for a very neat boy!
