Did you get her from a breeder? If so I would call them and ask about the cough. I would also recommend you take her to a vet tomorrow and get her checked out. She needs a check up anyways and have her shot records transferred. Depending on where you got her, she may have kennel cough. Please let us know what her new doctor says. Just like you we are concerned for her.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Just Purchased a Yorkie Congrats I got my little guy yesterday. I would try to get to the vet quick. From what I have read it does sound like Kennel Cough. Did the dog do this in front of the breeder? I am wondering if he/she had anything to say about it if your little one did it then. Good luck and I hope your little one gets better soon. How old is the pup? Did the vet give you any information on the vaccinations that the pup received? Looking forward to hearing an upate and seeing pictures. Bee |

| She was born on Dec. 1st. She is up to date on all of her shots. She is AKC Registered and was purchased from A local Pet Store. The owner got her and 2 siblings from a very reputable dog breeder. She is just hacking away!! Is it painful, and what can they do about treating her? Thanks |

| Please have her checked out by YOUR vet, not their's. Of course they are going to tell you to take her to the one they recommend, you can for your guarantee, but then off to YOURS for a second check up. It can be simple or something serious, but you have to make sure...

I Love Thor Donating Member | Ummmm. I hate to tell yout this but pet stores are really terrible. And any reputable breeder in his/her right mind would not sell their puppies to a pet store. I am so sorry that you are having to deal with this. What there a health garantee with the pup? I hope someone else that knows a little more about this gets on here and helps you with more advise. |

| If its kennel cough she will be put on meds. I dont know it hurts. I would imagine its likehaving a sore throat so yes. The bad thing about kennel cough is it can take a while for it to go away even if they are on meds.

| Congrats and welcome to YT! So sorry to hear your puppy isnt feeling well. Pet stores are notoriusly known for selling puppies that arent 100% healthy, so it is def possible that it is kennel cough. Poor baby! id get her to her initial check soon and just go from there! Hope she feels better and def keep us posted!!

| Kennel cough is described as a dry hacking cough followed by the pup hanging his head and gagging, acting like something is caught in his throat. It is very contagious so the puppy should not be around other dogs - so remember this tomorrow in the vet's waiting room and maybe have them call you inside when they're ready for you. If other dogs have already been exposed, watch for symptoms to appear in about 7 days. Ordinary vaccinations only prevent against the viral form. The bacterial form is a vaccination that is sprayed into their nasal passage and recommended for anyone that boards dogs or shows them. Good luck, definately go to the vet who will probably prescribe an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and maybe even a cough suppressant. |

| First, welcome and congrats on your baby. Was your purchase a spur of the moment buy? And, did you get the papers from them that included the name of the actual breeder and the state where she was bred. Some of the paperwork that looks like it is AKC reg is actually only to reg your AKC-sponsored companion recovery microchip. Take your baby to a vet ASAP and one NOT associated with the pet shop. And, do it soon as kennel cough is contagious and can progress into other resp problems such as pneumonia. Don't mean to scare you but buying puppies from a pet store is serious business... |
