Mine come when THEY feel like it. If it suits their needs. Or if I pick up the keys!! Only way I've ever been able to get them to come when I want them ALL to come at the same time, is to open the door leading into the garage, pick up the keys, and hope like heck I leave the car doors open! Then they're all in the car and I can get one or two out at a time! Suz |
Hah! They only come if its convenient to them and worth their effort! |
LOL at everyone's comments so far ... My OZ is 7 months now ... I tried something I read in a magazine while at the dentist ... I tried it and it really worked ..lol so far :aimeeyork ... Instead of saying "COME" or get your fuzzy ass over here now! I started saying Where's my good boy? the first few times he looked up but didn't come towards me ...so I walked to him and gave him a little bit of turkey breast.... the next few times he met me half way ... and I told him what a good boy he was and gave him the turkey ... Well pretty much from there on out ... ALL I had to do was say Where's my good boy? and no matter what he was up to he broke from it and came running to me ... Worth a try right? |
My gang of three ALWAYS come when they are called...... if and only if...... there is something in it for THEM! We are working very hard on the "come" command so I try to use the come command when I can follow through and "make" them come and when coming is going to be a good thing from their point of view. |
I don't like the unswer in this thread at all :( i hope my yorkie will come when i call him. My biger dogs always do that....inetersting why it's not the same with yorkies. They maybe small but not stupied at all. |
Twinkie usually comes when she's called, but only inside, she wouldn't even hear me if it was outside. She doesn't know "come" but she does come to her name - and I think the only reason she does is because she doesn't want to be left out of anything (I mean Princess chi might get a treat or a car ride without her or something - so she thinks). |
I think the reason that many of our Yorkies don't come when called is that they are not really trained to come. Yorkies are very independent and sometimes they are a challenge to train. I take sole responsibility for my furkids lack of responsiveness. My three are all very intelligent and are perfectly cabable of learning to obey any and all commands if I would take the time for some serious training. LOL |
My pom will come when called and I take her outside in the nice weather and she just sits in the shade while I garden. I did work with her when she was younger but I still think it's in the dog. Cali on the other hand will only come if I call Maya and that's inside. Today for the first time i put Cali on her harness and a leash and took her in the backyard, she ran so fast I had to beet feet to catch her! All of my Yorkies have been runners! |

Tucker comes about 90% of the time when called. He comes 100% of the time that I rattle paper and say "Want Some" |
If I call their names, NO!!! If I call "COOKIE" Yes!!! LOL But I'm working with Bell and she does come sometimes!! |
Baby comes when called. I just say, "poo poos" in a high pitched voice, and she comes running. :D |
No !!! Only when she wants to !!! |
Out of my three, only one will come when called Maddie, she will stay right by you in the front yard and would even walk around the block with out a leash. Now Rudy and Polly are a whole different story. Rudy is a runner and Polly is the same. In the back yard, I can get Rudy and Polly in by saying treat and they come a running. After reading all the post like every one has said it must be a yorkie thing. |
Hope comes, but sometimes I have to use my "stern" voice - maybe I should switch to "get your fuzzy ass over here now" :p LOL - just kidding - think I will use some of the excellent suggestions made so far. |
