Hi Lisa I am a Lisa too. Please dont leave. I dont think anyone here has anything against mixed breeds. The only thing I have read that anyone has a problem with are the breeders breeding them and selling them for extreme prices. I think mixed breeds are adorable and the people who have them are very welcome here. We all love our dogs and thats all that matters.

LIsa(s)

I agree - but please remember these little guys aren't necessarily bred by bad breeders anymore than any other dogs (including purebreds) are.

And - like purebreds - people can ask whatever they want for their pups.
And - we buyers can pay whatever we want for any pup. If we think a little pup is too expensive, we'll just have to shop around until we find one we can afford. This is the American way!!!!

Remember the $3000 - $5000 and $10,000 Yorkies!

And - please reread all the posts (this subject has been on YT many times). They have certainly been many posts stating that they are "just mutts" and as such "aren't worth much money," etc. Also - assuming that they all come from puppymills or disreputable breeders isn't true.

I know that most of us don't feel this way. I enjoy seeing most of us appreciating these little mixed breeds as much as we do. I think they are wonderful little dogs.

Oh I dont have any problem with a breeder charging whatever they think is a fair price to get a pup whether it be pure breed or mixed. I was just explaining what I thought others who are against it positions are.

My main problem with this is that people are paying a top price to a breeder for a mixed breed dog when they could go to a shelter and get the same mixed breed for a whole heck of a lot less. Our daughter in law works with the Humane Society in their area and last year they had an adorable Labradoodle puppy up for adoption at the whopping price of $110.00...but people went to a breeder for the same mix and paid a lot more instead of adopting this healthy young puppy from the shelter. It just makes no sense to me.

She was raised by a reputable breeder. (These mixed breeds are not bred by "backyard breeders" anymore than purebreds are.)

AND - Please - how often do I read here on YT about people asking about Yorkie mixes and other small dog mixes - and the general concensus is that they are "just adorable" and "how cute" and "can't wait to see the pups," and "Oh, I wish I had one." There certainly has never been much prejudice against these little mixed breeds by our members. And, I have always been very happy to see this.

The reason these dogs are expensive is because they are "small and darling"
and like most small purebreds, people are willing to pay a lot for them. I saw a Yorkie/Pom on the Internet the other day that was the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life. If I were in the market for a small dog - he certainly would be on my list - and I would be willing to pay quite a bit for him too.

I see no problem. Purebreds and mixed breeds have been in this world forever and ever - and there will always be both. This shouldn't be a problem. A vet on TV said that these little mixed breeds will probably have fewer health problems than some of our purebreds are having.

Small dogs (purebred or mixes) are very very popular - and will always be worth whatever people are willing to pay for them. If you paid $1500 for a Yorkie and I paid $1000 for a Yorkie/Pom - why would this upset anyone? I'll bet we'd both have darling little pets that we'd love forever.

I do think people who are prejudice against mixed breeds and prefer only purebreds - (and who think mixed breeds aren't "worth much $$$) are snobs.

We have worked so long and so hard to overcome prejudices regarding different races and nationalities of people and the mixing of different races. Why can't we see that our pets are equally wonderful and equal in every way also. And, as far as what people are willing to pay for any dog - doesn't have anything to do with anything. Each of us has the right to get whatever dog we want --- and pay whatever we are willing to pay for any dog. They are all worth a million dollars.....just ask someone who owns and loves their "mutt." They'll tell you.

I absolutely hate the word "mutt" when it is used in a disparaging way. And, what does "only a mutt" mean - how terrible!

I personally think some of these little small dogs mixes are delightful wonderful additions to the many choices we have when we go looking for a little pet.

I own a Bichon and a Yorkie ---but remember my little Poodle/Pom......I will miss her every day the rest of my life.

Getting a dog at the shelter is a wonderful thing to do.

Our shelter has placed hundreds of dogs, but a lot of them aren't puppies and the majority of them are larger breeders. We have had people watch the shelters for months trying to find a younger, smaller breed -- they are just few and far between - and these same people have finally had to look elsewhere.

I think the labradoodles are a great dog. We have never had one at our shelter. And, even though I think they're great - I couldn't have a dog that large for many reasons.

Yes - I agree - checking out your local shelters is a great first-place to look when you are in the market for a dog.

PS: I think our shelter has more labs and golden retrievers (sometimes mixes) than any other breed. If you want either of these breeds, a shelter is definitely a place to check out ---but most of these dogs are two or three years old and sometimes older.

Carol Jean

PS: We have purebreds at the shelter too - but again - usually older (almost never puppies).

Occassionally yorkies end up in rescue, regardless of age, some people would still prefer to get their pup from a breeder rather than rescue. Its is sad, but true and I don't think it matters which breed or mix it is.

Thanks Janell.

Regarding Rescues and sometimes shelter dogs - often these little guys are older and have special problems. Unfortunately, many of them have been abused and mistreated. How sad!

I think these are often special little dogs and it's usually very special people who get them. My hat is off to people who do this.

I have a friend who got a Bichon from a Rescue program. She was three years old, is a great dog, and they love her to death. And, don't we know - the greyhound rescue/adoption programs are the success stories of the world.

There are certainly many different ways and many different places we can find our little pets.

I'm not fond of the term "designer dogs" or the prices that people pay for them, but I nearly adopted a maltepoo from a shelter last weekend and it was one of the cutest, sweetest dogs I have ever seen! I can understand why these dogs appeal to a lot of people. Unfortunately, my yorkie didn't like him as much as I did

My gems are the love of my life I have 5 of them.

Brandon-10 years-mixed-mom/dad-cost-free
Hannah-6 years-mixed-mom/dad-cost-free
Fudge-14 years-mixedterrier-cost-free
Zena-7 years-mixed-sheltie/lab-cost-90.00
Nelly-7 months-mixed-yorkie/poodle-cost-450.00

Value for me, their mom-PRICELESS!!!!!
I get very offended when I hear the name MUTT put on my dogs. I do not consider them this, they are my babies. I hear the word mutt and it sounds like that it is calling my babies nothing. I know some may not want to come across this way but to the people who have these mixed babies(yes they are our babies) just like your pure babies that is how it sounds. I came to this site for all the helpful suggestions I get and when my babies get insulted the way some are insulting to them, I can see why some people leave because they get offended. I am the proud owner of five mixed babies. If this site is only for those with pure babies(which I thought it wasn't) please let me know and I will find a site that accepts my little mixes, I know alot of people who have mixes on this site are very offended with everything that is being said about them it just took me awhile to say something as well. I thought I could just read and get past it, but it is always brought up and some people are being very rude about it and I cannot believe that some have not been suspended from the site instead of the people who are feeling insulted having to leave themselves.

Have one - LOVE HER! But, I didn't pay "designer prices". She's a Yorktese and she's beautiful, smart, has love coloring like a Yorkie, but white where Yorkies are brown.

It's just like anything else - you don't know what is FOR YOU until you are there and see that particular little one. Then, the heart takes over. Yorkie blood rules though - and this one is a TERRIER!

LDteddys ...There's many mixes on this site and no one is saying anything about the actual dog...just the terms and prices....You'll see many of us Bug OUT over some Terms & Prices for yorkies too

I bet your little yorkiepoo is adorable and this isn't a post against any mixes....just the people using "Catch" phrases to ask high dollar amounts.

I too have a "designer pup", a shorkie. I purchased him for $500.00 canadian and people thought I was crazy for paying that price. I had just lost my purebred yorkie last January and I just wanted another small dog. For me, it is not the status of "designer" but just the ownership of a beautiful, loving little dog.

I do believe the breeders are out to make a profit. I guess they feel there is a demand for such. Oh well. What can you do?
