| ![]() HA! I asked this question long long time ago. It's interesting that new people have same questions and I did when I joined!! So.. welcome to YT.. I always wanted a boy.. and I told my breeder I want a boy.. (I have been waiting on a yorkie too.. i have been looking for long long time).. anyway... at this time.. I don't really care if my pup will be boy or girl.. because... yorkie is cute and loveable.. anyway... Well.. I might take a boy over a girl because of price.. and they are both good anyway... Then at the same time.. I guess when you look a couple babies.. you might feel good about one particular baby.. Depends on how you feel when you see them.. I think!!!

| ![]() I have heard so many different things that I have just come to the conclusion that each yorkie is totally different no matter what sex they are ![]() I have heard that males are everything from cuddly, stubborn, independant, clingy, hyper, calm, afec tionate,cold..etc etc etc,and Iv heard the exact same about females! lol. Each person says something different but in the end it just means the same thing, its all about personality and not about the sex ![]() I am getting my boy soon (16 days!!!) and I am so exited to see what he will be like.I already have one stubborn yorkie and one super affectionate one (both girls) so what will Chicco be like? I have no idea ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() Lets see now...Boys verses girls.........hummmmmmmm It has been my experience that both can be cuddlers, very much lap babies and very much wanting to please. I have both and my first male never lifted his leg to pee on anything other than the pee pad when he couldn't go outside. But now that I have more than one male it seems that when a female comes in the war starts..They hick everywhere. So I now put belly bands on the males when a female is in heat unless they are outside. So many people have asked if a male is better for a woman and a female is better for a man because that is what they have been told. Well my experience has been they love us both but I would have to say they tend to come to me more since I am the one who mostly takes care of them. Therefore in my experience it is not a male for a woman and a female for a man. So I think you should go to the breeders house, sit on the floor and play with the pups then decide what you want. ![]() |

| ![]() i've read that males tend to be more playful and affectionate and maintain a more "puppy-like" temperament throughout their lives. they can be clingy and eager to please. they are also more easily motivated by food for training (like their human counterparts i suppose ![]() my bunjee is coming up on 5 months old now. i had him neutered a little pass 4 months old. he's expressed no dominance issues, no marking. he still squats when he pees. the only time he lifts his leg a little (like a faction of an inch off the ground) is if he feels that he's stepping in a pre-existing pee stain on his potty pad while he pees, then he'll lift that leg a little so that he's not standing in a stain when he pees. it's sooo funny. my understanding is that the lifting leg and marking thing is a dominance behavior that will not exhibit until the puppy is about 6 months, when he starts to become sexually mature. some puppies can unlearn the behavior once they're neutered. some puppies will continue to do it just out of habit rather than sexual need. but male or female, you can't go wrong either way!!! |

| ![]() I didn't go through everyone's responses, but Loki is now 14 months old. He was neutered at 6 months. He's never lifted his leg and he's 100% outside potty trained. However, he's very bossy and he does growl and bark a lot. We're working on this. (They are, after all, Yorkshire Terriers ![]()

| ![]() Wow everyone's responses are so helpful and I appreciate it so much that everyone is so helpful on this sight. I can't wait until I have my yorkie and can help other people out as well. I will probably (like alot of you have said) will wait until March when I see the litter to decide. Now I have heard so many positive things about males that my heart will probably lead towards a male. The only thing holding me back is my mom. I will be graduating from college in May and living at home for a year to save some money. I am buying the dog for me but she said she is fine with it living with us. She is just really into keeping our house nice and is afraid of the male peeing everywhere. But I would get it neutered so hopefully the marking wouldn't occur but I hope I will be able to convince her if I come to love one of the male puppies. I won't be working at all this summer and i will be able to get the puppy in May. I have been reading books and doing research so I am prepared for training it and taking the best care of it. That's why I will not get a job until summer is over. So, I hope my full time with the new puppy will help to train it well and adjust to the family...as well as prove to my mom that I can take care of any problems that may occur!! Sorry my posts are so long haha..thank you everyone ![]() |

| ![]() So the males may or may not lift their leg to use the bathroom before 6 months of age? This doesn't necessarily mean they will mark in the house? So Im guessing it just depends...some males will and some will not? |

| ![]() My male started lifting his leg to go to the potty about 7 months old. He never lifts it inside the house though.

| ![]() I just had to respond because initially I wanted a female....had a name picked out and everything. Then I went to the breeder to see the male and female and decided on the male. I just love my Georgie I can't imagine a dog being more affectionate and friendly. The only thing that is a drawback (which it doesn't matter much to me) is that they have soooo many cute girly clothes and not so many boys clothes. My niece has a male as well and he is very affectionate and sweet. |

| ![]() I wanted a girl also, because of the Marking indoors thing also. But when I found a breeder she only had 2 males left, and I was tired of waiting and looking. SO I took the male home. He was neutered at 6 months , Only marked inside twice at other people houses who had dogs, after being neutered has never done it again. He does mark EVERYTHING outside, but that's fine with me. He is very independent, and comes when HE wants, and cuddles when he wants, but is always at my side whenever I move anywhere, and sleeps right against me, and cuddles on my lap everynight when we watch tv. Comes to work with me everyday, and is great with strangers, and kids. NOt big on other dogs coming in his territory or his sidewalk, or street..ha. Wouldn't change a thing, and I'm glad I got HIM no regrets. Good luck in your search. And truthfully, they are all have minds of their own. And will all be different. HE has more personality than some people I know. And cracks me up on a daily basis.

it's important to note that females can mark too. like the male, it's to assert dominance. | |
