Default I've never been so scared!

This afternoon my mom and I were out running errands and we had just picked Bridget up from the groomer. Mom had to go into the grocery store so I put Bridget into her harness and leash and found a grassy area by the side of the store for a little stroll. All of a sudden 4 (yes 4!) HUGE husky type dogs come charging from a house across the street toward us. Of course, I immediately pick up my baby and run like crazy toward my car. The owner comes running acrross the street trying to get ahold of her dogs. I ran back behind my car fumbling in my pocket for my keys as the dogs were being corralled by the owner. She was having a tough time getting hold of all of them. In my blind panic I yelled at the woman "get those dogs away from here, why aren’t they on a leash"? The woman was very indignant and said “oh they aren’t going to hurt her, calm down”. I replied that I didn’t know that, those dogs are ten times my dogs size and should not be running loose! I finally got my keys and we jumped into my car. I was just shaking. I don’t know if they would have hurt her or not, but I sure wasn’t taking any chances. Took awhile for my heart to stop pounding. Bridget was oblivious to the whole thing, just mad that we left before she got to play.

Just had to share... I knew you folks would understand! We will do anything to protect our precious babies!

Wow, I am so very sorry for your scare. It was a good time to dial 911 on your cell phone and report the vicious dogs at large.

Oh that is a very scary occurrence - I've had that happen a couple of times at the park. I can tell myself it may just be an overreaction on my part - I can certainly be an over-protective yorkie mom - but I would not take ANY chances even on some medium-ish dogs coming at my two. You can just never tell if those dogs will be friendly or see your little one as a "toy" or a tasty snack!

The best thing is to definitely keep aware of your surroundings and scoop them up like you did if you sense danger coming. The other owner should have been more apologetic and had better dog etiquette!!

I am glad everything was alright. It is such a good thing you had her on a leash so she didn't get scared and bolt. That is what would worry me the most about having mine follow off-leash. I am sorry the other lady was rude, but I am sure she was also upset that her dogs were loose, they can get run over, too. My six can be like a tiny pack, when one barks, they all run and bark. I know they are little, but if they were bigger, I am sure they would act the same (but look scary instead of cute)

Default loose dogs

people are so irresponsable. i have this problem frequently in my neighborhood. a few think it's ok to let their dogs run late at night. i work the night shift and get home around 1am. i like to take my furbaby for a lil walk when i get home. it's usually nice. noone is around and less cars to deal with. it's very quiet and peaceful. until we run into dogs that their owners let run free in the night. they say . "oh my dog won't hurt you". now i just call the cops and tell them where the dog lives. the cop puts the dog in the back of his car and goes to the owners home and wakes them up. i let the cops deal with them now. (after attempting to speak to the owners in person) i'm afraid these mid to large ize dogs will sneak up on us and hurt my baby. they always scare the poo out of me. you never know how a strange dog will react to our babies. even a familiar dog. be careful.

Thank goodness you and Bridget are unharmed, physically anyway! I know exactly how you feel! I've had encounters with big dogs while with Maddie and every time, if the owners around, they say, "He or she won't hurt your yorkie!" One did attack Maddie once and thank goodness I was able to pull her away because she had a harness and leash on. That dog meant business! A few weeks ago a yellow lab jumped over our fence into our yard and went right for Maddie. That owner also said, he wouldn't hurt your yorkie! Well, why did he go for her then and chase her when she finally made her get away into the garage. I was so scared trying to pick up Maddie and keep that dog away from her. If I'd had her leash on her, I could have pulled her to me, but I shouldn't need one in our fenced back yard! I don't mind big dogs, but darn it...stay away from our yorkies! I've heard of too many yorkies being killed by big dogs...big dogs who's owners have said, "my dog won't hurt your yorkie!" I'm so glad you got through this ordeal with no injuries!

I just posted a similar message today about my baby being "run over" by a poodle! I can't imagine being chased by huskies!! Glad to hear that you are okay and your baby was oblivious. My baby was very shaken by her little incident today. Why do owners of big dogs always insist they are "harmless" and would "never hurt a fly"?

That is why a leash law is a wonderful thing! Thank goodness Bridget wasn't hurt. The dogs may not have been aggressive, but they could have trampled her and really hurt her. This woman sounds like an ignorant pet owner.

I would have done the same thing also. Having 4 large dogs that you don't know coming at you is scary for anyone...let a long a poor little dog. Sometimes in certain areas, it's illegal to have dogs without a leash on. I would have reported her. Was anyone else around? Like any kids around?
