| Shedding? Please Help! Hi, I am new to this forum and new to Yorkies. I have recently acquired a 10 month old yorkie and I am hooked! I am a litte confused as my understanding is that yorkies do not shed. My yorkie, Cassi, is shedding quite a bit. Is this normal at 10 months old or could it be a nutritional problem. Please Help! |

| Yorkies normally dont shed. It could be an allergy problem.

| I wanted to tell you too. My male sheds and its because of allergies. My female one time shed a bunch of hair on her back when she was little. The vet did a skin scrape to check for mites. They didnt find any and didnt find out why she lost the hair but it grew back and we havent had the problem since.

| It does sound like an allergry condition. Maybe your vet could confirm a diagnosis for her. Also, welcome to Yorkie Talk.

| Thanks alot! Her coat looks fine except for the shedding. No bald spots or thining in one specific area. It seems to be an over all shedding. Maybe I should change shampoos. Can you recommend a good shampoo and conditioner. How often do you shampoo and do you use a conditioner in between shampoos. I appreciate the fast responses. Is it necessary to give yorkies nutritional supplements? The vet has checked her and says she looks really healthy although she wasn't shedding at that time (about 2 months ago). Thanks again, Myra |

| I use Chris Christensen Day to Day shampoo and conditioner. Alot of people on here use it. Google Chris Christensen and you will find the site. You might want to give something with omega fatty acids they are good for the skin and coat. You could get Missing Link at Petsmart. You just sprinkle it on their food. Or you could get Grizzly Salmon Oil out of the Dr Fosters and Smith online catalog.
