Breed My Tee Tee Mouse? NEVER!!

I took Tee Tee to the vet last night because she's been sneezing on and off these past 2 days. According to the vet, she has a slight cold but we caught it in time before it got any worse. She's feeling MUCH better this morning! No more sneezing. Yay for Tee Tee!

But anyway, while I was in the waiting room to see the vet, this couple came in with their Yorkie boy. Now I'm not one to make fun of any dog (especially a Yorkie), but this Yorkie was so ratty and dirty looking! His hair looked like it was never combed in his life -- it was greasy and matted! I felt so sorry for the little guy. He was truly beyond filthy! Anyway, the wife noticed my Tia and said "Oh my god, she's so beautiful and tiny!! " So we started a polite, friendly conversation about our dogs. Then her husband said that they stud their male out to breeders. The said we should breed our two dogs together because they would make "adorable" pups.

First I said, well I'm not educated enough to be a breeder. I haven't done any real research on breeding, genetic testing, etc. Also, my dogs (I had Codie there with me too) are PETS ONLY -- just for lovin', not breeding. I was trying to be polite and keep my answer simple rather then get into specific details with them. But they kept insisting that we could make a lot of money on the pups and they would be so cute and a whole bunch of other bull $hit. They also said genetic testing is too expensive and not necessary.

So then I told them that Tia would be way too small to breed because she will only be about 2 lbs - 3 lbs when full grown. And testing is vital because I don't want to be responsible for spreading liver shunt and luxated patella and other genetic defects along to poor baby pups!

This woman had the nerve to tell me that Tia would not be too small for breeding. She said her dog has been with 2 lb females before. I was appalled! For one thing ... her dog is AT LEAST 8 lbs!! Can you imagine an 8 lb male with a little itty bitty 2 lb female?

Needless to say, I saw RED when she said that! My husband jumped in the conversation before I could respond (he knows my temper only too well) and said "We're not interested. It's too dangerous to breed tiny females and we are not willing to risk our baby's life." The woman tried to say something again but I told her to "SHUT HER PIE HOLE and not talk to us anymore because I want NOTHING to do with careless, unethical people who breed for money!!" Then she and her husband started saying that they are not unethical and they love their dog, etc. I said "oh yeah, you REALLY love your dog. I can tell just exactly how much care and attention you give him by the way he's so clean and well groomed." They didn't say one more word to me after that remark!

That just goes to show the ignorance of some people. Good for you for sticking up for yourself and your little Tee Tee. I feel bad for the boy yorkie though if he isn't being properly taken care of. Proud of you for saying what you did!!!!!!!

Damn I love that temper of yours..lol..good ole Jim has to ruin it and not let you yell at the unethical stupid people. People like that make me sick. Jennette and I were walking Max, Missy and Coco once and out of no where this lady stops the car, gets out in the middle of the road and asks Jennette if she would let Max and her Yorkie Mix "MATE" She was saying how their girl is so cute that they just want another few of her and sell the rest. We were so appalled we didn't even know what to say, so we just did a double take and kept on going.

I felt so bad for her dog. Plus it was cold out yesterday and her dog didn't even have a sweater on! My dog's had on a sweater and a coat over it. Plus, Tia was wrapped in her pink floral baby blanket because she's almost 6 months old and just too young to be outside in the cold. Ok, I know I'm paranoid but I can't help it! She's just so tiny for 6 months old. We had her weighed last night and she's only 1 lb and 14 ounces right now. WAY TOO SMALL TO EVER BREED!

BRAVO! You handled it wonderfully! the nerve of some people. They seem very careless and obviously do not have their dog's best interest at heart. im so glad that you and your husband stood your ground and let them have it! i wouldve loved to see their faces when you remarked on the grooming!! well done jennifer. i can not believe she said teting wasnt necessary!! ugh. i hope for the sake of the babies all the puppies they breed are healthy and find good homes that provide them with vet check ups, grooming, and lots of love. BTW- im glad to hear she is not sneezing anymore! what a cutie pie she is<3<3

You know my temper - LOL! Jim had to ruin all my fun! I would have loved to yell at them some more but I honestly didn't want to make a scene at the vet's office. I really like my vet -- he's excellent -- and I just didn't want to be disrespectful to him by having a screaming fit in his waiting room. hehehehe

Well, you are just watching out for your Tee Tee!!!! I do the same thing with Luigi and Brasco. When I take them to the vets though, people always laugh and make a comment about them being all bundled up, but yes---IT IS COLD!!! We do what is best for them!!!! And Luigi is 6 lbs and Brasco is only 4 lbs and I worry about them being cold!

Then it makes me wonder about the kind of treatment the little boy yorkie gets at home for him to look like that and have no clothes on when its sooo cold out????

I don't blame you for being paranoid at all---I would be the same way!!!!

Way to go!!! You need to watch out for your baby first. My best friend has a male Yorkie (yes, he's Maddie's boyfriend) and her mom thought it would be fun to have one litter before Maddie was fixed. I couldn't bear the thought of something happening to Maddie and I would have no clue what to do. Even after 3 no's - she asked again and I said as long as she took off the time to handle everything, and full financial responsibitly I would think about it. That shut her up. Besides risking the health and welfare of the female, I think alot of people do not realize the time, money, work and dedication that goes into breeding. I rather people who are truly vested in breeding help bring more furbabies into the world.
