| Dealing with Jelousy....Help needed Well I picked up the Yorkie I was going to rescue today. He is the cutest! Beautiful coat and sweet. He is 10 pounds and that's why the breeder didn't want him. He has been caged up for the 7 months of his life....so sad. He is very afraid and he barely knows how to run. He is sooooooo hungry and thirsty...very very sad.....I'm confident he will come around. The problem is....my little Scruffy is very jelous. I first she was having fun playing with him but now that she has seen him stick around for a few hours and play with her toys and her mommy and daddy she is VERY jelous. My question is this....should I have 2 food bowls? Should they have 2 seperate beds? Have any of you experienced jelousy? How did you best overcome this? I don't want my little girl to think we love her any less. Please help. Thank you, Yaremis |

| Oh yes two food bowls. I would also give him his own bed. They might sleep together someday, but now they need time to adjust. Soon they will be forever loving friends. It just takes time. I'm so glad you saved him. Sounds like he needs lots of TLC. Best of luck to you! Please keep us posted.

| Pippa was the poster child for jealousy when we got Scout. Scruffy will come around, it will take time. I did have to feed them separately at first because Pippa is very picky and wants to take her time to eat...daintily and such..hehe. Scout would gobble his food, then start on Pippa's. Now they eat at the same time. Pippa was pretty pouty for about a week, too. I went to extra efforts to show her that she was still just as important...long walks with me by herself and personal playtime. She came around in about a week. We still have issues from time to time. She will jump on Scout's back sometimes when I'm on the floor playing with him, or she tries to push him out of the way for treats, but he's bigger than her now and can hold his own. Just give them time, they will be great friends.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I would defintely have two separate bowls, beds and even some separate toys....they each need to have a space to call their own, esp. while they both adjust to the change!! Over time, the jealousy will settle down, but make sure you are giving both lots of individualized attention and love!! Magic was very jealous when Sailor came home, but after a couple of days she settled in and a year later they love to be around each other!!

| Another "yes" vote for separate beds and separate bowls. You may even need to separate them at meal times. Don't assume that they are safe to leave alone together.

| Thank you to all! This morning she woke up much better....I think the fact that he slept in the crate and she slept in bed with us really helped. I will go and get him his own bed, bowls and toys. It's so funny he wants to mimick everything Scruffy does. He is so lost... I have my hands full though. He doesn't know that peeing and pooping in the crate are a big no no....imagine the crate is all he knew for 7 months. I have managed to anticipate when he needs to go and have taken him outside...the sad thing is though...and I'm sure is true of most rescues...is that instead of pooping in the grass he prefers the cement! I will post some pictures later... Yaremis |

| I agree with two seperate food bowls and two seperate beds. They definitely do need time to adjust and realize that while they ARE sharing space, they do have their own things and Scruffy will realize that not EVERYTHING is being taken from her (ie. she's losing some attention from mommy and daddy, but she still has her dishes, her bed, her toys, etc.) I think it's great that you rescued this new little baby. I'm sure you'll give him a WONDERFUL home. And Scruffy will adjust in no time.
