| Deuce needs an eye removed My beautiful boy has had some time of it. He will be 14 next week and still weights only 5.6 lbs. Three years ago he had a cataract removed and a lens implant in his right eye. Shortly after we noticed a cataract in his left eye. At the time I didn't think we should put him through yet another surgery with hopes to have his teeth addressed. I really fear anesthesia for my little man. Well now the left eye has Glaucoma with increasing pressure. Options are to remove the left eye or do a gentocin injection. The injection is appealing but may not do the job or not be long lasting which will result in having to remove the eye anyway. We have pretty much decided to remove his eye. Anyone else have experience with this? What does a yorkie with one eye look like? Is a prosthetic necessary? I used to be quite active on this forum but grandkids came into the picture and I just haven't been here. I need to post a few current photos of my little old man so you can see how he's changed over the years. I continue to do my own grooming and just this year I cut off his topknot and he's sporting a crewcut. He still looks like a puppy - only a little slower. Glad to be back.

| Welcome back, so sorry to hear about beautiful Deuce. The pups that I have seen that had to have an eye removed, the lid was just closed. Noprosthetic was used if that can even be done. Please keep up posted

| I have had three pups who had this problem. All three of them had the gentamycin injection. The opthalmolgist I use here in the Houston area recommends it because he told me enucleation can be very difficult/painful. All three did fine thankfully. Not trying to suggest you should do it, just sharing my experience. It is a difficult decision. I am sure you will make the best decision for Deuce. Hope all goes well.
