It's been just over 2 weeks and Teddy is still Teddy. Nelson is doing fine and I'm optimistic all will work out with time. It would be great to hear from others as/when they are able to contribute. In the meantime, I have had the privelage of many medical and breed professionals to call on for advice which has been helpful. :animal-pa |
Thank you for the up date Misty. |
Hi there, I strongly recommend you neuter your new male. Two unneutered male terriers in your home will be very difficult down the road. Don't ever forget, these guys are "terriers" - not lap dogs. I would invest in some fencing so that you can keep the 2 boys separated - there are some good options on Amazon. It may seem innocuous right now but, when the puppy gets older, he may pose a danger to your older guy. And right now the older guy may pose a danger to the puppy. Every dog is different, but these terriers, you can count on them to be feisty. Enjoy your new puppy, just trying to help you to protect them. And I did look at your breeders website and she does recommend neuter at six (6) months of age. That makes sense, most breeders won't let a puppy go without neuter as they want to protect their lines. Trust what everyone is telling you after many years of experience. All the best. |

We don't have an obligation to sugar coat something that we know can be, and is likely to be in the future, dangerous to the pups. Just like anything else, if a person does not like the advice given, he/she can just ignore what is not liked and go with the others; which I am quite sure will be the minority. Perhaps he/she should go to a breeder forum for this advice? They keep intact dogs ....but, of course, they are usually separated as breeders know how things can turn out. |

The advice from this forum was communicated to vets and international show breeder(s) who did not agree with any of the statements re: future safety/fighting etc so I will take their advice over a pet forum. I'm not aware of a website. I speak to people face to face for individual advice. What is there for the general public is of no interest to me. Hope this settles things. I will block anyone who goes off subject as I think I've made my position clear numerous times. I'm sure others who ask about neutering, specifically, will benefit from a separate thread. |

I give the advice I feel is best. They can take it or leave it. While the OP of a thread may not welcome said advice, it might help another person and/or their pets in the future. I refuse to be censored....people who don't like my advice can ignore it or ignore me There are a couple of handy little features on this forum: "Ignore" and, "Close this thread" which the OP of a thread can always feel free to do. |
As it's been 6 weeks since we brought Nelson home, thought I'd update on the progress! Teddy is getting along MUCH better after I realized what the issue was which is he doesn't like being jumped on! Well, I can't blame him? Since I identified this issue, things are going MUCH smoother. I am making sure Nelson is walked daily and training is going great. He is almost 100% housetrained, walks on his leash beautifully and has mastered 'sit'. Just teaching him how to lay down and also to not jump on furniture etc. |
