Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Need advice on breeder obligation? pup is sick Flew to texas from Calif. to pick up pup from breeder on Friday 14, 21 breeder kept pup for 13 weeks she was concerned with weight she said wasn't a big eater and she didn't give full deworm due to med making his stool soft after second doses. He won't eat his regular food and barely eats boiled chicken, poops are mucusy Today, Monday I bring the pup to the vet and the vet says most likely parasites. Vet doesn't want to finish vaccines because pup is sick. Vet gives dewormer (Strongid T) and Metronidazole .03 every 12 hours. I have been in contact with the breeder during the whole time texts back and forth. I told her I was stressed having a sick pup right out of the gate. She asked to call her after the vet visit. She doesn't think he has parasites as other pups didn't have them, she said . She wants me to buy liverwurst and mix with rice and chicken and just give the probiotics she recommends. I asked if she was willing to pay for the vet and she said that she didn't want to do that , but in three days if he is not better she will fly out to pick him up to give me my money back $3000, just the cost of the pup. I said the flight is about $500 so could she reimburse me for the vet bill until he is better, she basically said no. She will take him to her vet make him well and sell to someone else. I'm so sad! I was recommended to this breeder by another top breeder in texas, and up until now I was completely over joyed with this breeder, but now, no so much. Am I in the wrong here? Any advice is appreciated. BTW the pups dad is/was Rosemarks. I don't want to bash this breeder as I think she is great and I was hoping to go back for a second Pup later.

| I do not think you are wrong at all. Many years ago I bought a yorkie from a reputable breeder and it was a sad outcome. Her name was Keally and when we brought her home she had diarrhea and did not want to eat. Maybe we should of gave her back but we did keep her and come to find out she had genetic IBD. Lots of vet bills but we loved her so much it devastated us when we had to put her down at twelve and a half years old . I know it is a tough decision but I would in my shoes let the breeder take your pup back. I hate to see you go through the heartache we had throughout Keally’s life. When I say vet bills they were a constant bill in our lives. Keally was a very special girl and we never have forgotten her I guess she was lucky to have us as parents. We did go on and now we have an eleven year girl named Kinder. She is healthy and an angel from heaven. I hope you think this through, I hate to see anybody go through what we went through. Also we bought pet insurance on our Kinder it is worth it. Hope all goes well for you. Susan |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Thanks so much! I also went through the same thing you did with Kinder, My black and tan dog chip in the pic had constant issues and I spent thousands of dollars. So I have PTSD already from that experience. I really thought this breeder was top notch. I think I will wait the 3 days that my vet suggested and if it starts becoming more complicated than just parasites then I will have to give him up, I can't take another 15 years of bills and heartache. Thanks for your advice! I'm heartbroken that the breeder who seemed to be so caring and attentive and go the extra mile would do this quite frankly.

| Did the vet check a stool sample? I wouldn’t have just treated for parasites but done a fecal first. If a fecal has not been done it needs to be. When you say sick is it just that they are not eating and soft poo? This can happen with stress and big changes.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | The Poo What is very mucousy and he was not eating. The vet gave him a deworming shot as the breeder did not finish due to Soft poo. Vet also put him on Metronidazole. I am happy to report that my puppy Dash has returned to normal puppy behavior he is happy eating two bowls of food two days after treatment. Breeder finally did pay me back, $100 for an $89 vet bill. I didn’t do the fecal because the vet said if the puppy didn’t respond to the treatment within a couple of days then we should do a fecal. Last edited by Yorkie4luv; 05-21-2021 at 08:06 AM. |
