| First post This is my first Yorkie.com post so I am learning how to use it. Abbey is 1 year old and we are considering breeding her one time for the wonderful experience, then spaying her. I have been reading the Breeder's Handbook on what to expect. Soon I will need to find a stud for her. She is 4.4#. How much are stud fees? Mary Claus Crestview (Panhandle), FL |

| I don’t want to be negative, but you should do some careful research before breeding your dog. Breeding isn’t always a wonderful experience; it can actually be tragic, especially with very small dogs and inexperienced owners. And your 4.4 pound girl is not big enough to breed safely. It would be much better for you to have her spayed and leave breeding to the professionals who (1) know what they’re doing and (2) are doing it for the right reasons ... to improve the breed, not to enjoy the experience. |

| I agree COMPLETELY with BlueBells. Your little girl is way too small to even consider breeding. |

| It honestly is not a good experience for the dog. Labor is painful and can be deadly. No good breeder would ever breed a female under 5 pounds because it is dangerous and could kill them and most of the time ends up in very expensive c-section and then you have the possibility of her rejecting the pups so you have to play mom and bottle feed every 2 hours, stimulate them to pee and poo and you have to keep them warm. The only reason to breed is to better the breed so your female would need to be AKC registered and an exceptional example of the breed. You also need to have many health exams done on her and genetic testing. But at the end of the day she is to small and you will be risking her life.

| Welcome to YorkieTalk. You have come to a great place for information. Like the others that have posted, I agree that your little one is too little for breeding and hope you will collect more info on this.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Welcome to yorkie talk. You've come to a right place to ask pertinent questions. I do agree with all the other posters here. Your gal is likely too small to breed safely. And certainly not for the novice breeder.
