In my adult life I have had 8 female dogs, poodles, mini schnauzers then my heart was captured with yorkies. All these pups I raised from 8 week old babies, I trained them my way, socialized them. Now my yorkie girls were tom boys, always zooming around, flying from sofas to club chairs, wrestling and tumbling, not one ever got hurt.

Now I have a rescue boy who is just perfect, exceptionally smart, very food motivated so he learns new commands very quickly. After years of having dogs I am now faced with having to keep a 9 year old calm, this is all new to me and have tried many things to keep him calm and not jumping. I even stopped filling the bird feeders to keep the squirrels away so they don't get him nuts.
I keep him confined to the room I'm in where there is nothing he can jump on. I do keep the harness on him as soon as we are up for the day and leash him when I sit for breaks to keep him from jumping up and down on the sofa or love seat, this I started to do over this past weekend as it was the only way to keep him from jumping. The fact that he hates the harness on him, well, it's just, is what it is, it stays on until bedtime.

I take it off in the kitchen, I have linoleum floors, that's when the zooming starts, he's so happy to have that harness off, zooming and sliding across the floor. When I can snag him he gets carried to the bed, he doesn't jump off during the night so that's a good thing because my bed is high. Then the day starts. Vet follow up is this Friday evening, vet will check his back, if he needs another back realignment she will do it.
I tell you, not being able to speak directly with my vet is so stressful, I pray the meds are working and his back is ok so I don't have to go back. The way vet visits are now is very frustrating when having to write questions and have a tech relay the answers.

That is truly horrible and frustrating that you're unable to speak directly with your vet. As I said, Dr Welch always calls me after seeing Piper and while I'm waiting for her to be brought back to car; sooo grateful for those conversations. I wonder why your vet won't do at least that...? Love and smooches to you and that little Codiak-Bear!!

My vet is the owner of her 24/7 365 clinic. she has a staff of 57 ppl including 3 other vets. 3 years ago she was awarded best vet of the year for our county, she is truly fantastic, spot on with her diagnosis. I have been using her since the early 80's. Everyone wants only her as do I. She is very, very busy caring for all the animals coming in. Before this pandemic of course I saw her, but now, I wouldn't expect her to be on the phone with ppl. I can email her my questions and concerns, but it's just not the same as seeing and speaking to her in person.
The only good thing about tech coming to the car to get the dog is, I don't have to sit in a waiting room with Cody wanting to fight with every dog that comes through the door, it's so embarrassing.

When Penny was spayed after the first days I couldn’t keep her calm and she was going to hurt herself constantly trying to get out of the pen. The vet gave us a sedative but it did little to nothing with her but you might have to ask your vet for one if he has too keep staying calm. When Penny went in for her sick visit we got to talk to the vet before anything was done to her minus what we already told the tech what was ok. Have you tried asking if there is anyway you could speak with the vet? I know this is rough. I fear some kind of emergency happening and them not letting me in, I think I would need sedation or something. We go to phase 3 Friday so I’m hoping and praying that at least makes it where one person can go in. I feel like some of these new rules weren’t really thought about especially for the pet owner.

Maryland is not fully open? I thought all states were. That's really the pits.

Vet visits will remain as they are now until a vaccine is made and that's not going to happen until 2021. I read no virus is ever eradicated, with a vaccine they can control it, but as we know, not everyone gets flu shots and some ppl die because they refused them, they don't believe in getting them.
I read the only virus ever fully eradicated was Small Pox. So we are in for the long haul because, even when they get a vaccine not everyone will want one, the same as a flu shot, so COVID-19 is here to stay because ppl just will not cooperate.

We all have to get use to vet rules, I'm not happy about it but, it is what it is. Like I said, I can email my vet my questions and concerns and she will answer them, but its not the same as face to face.

Still not completely fulling functioning. There are still limits of gatherings and stuff unless your a rioter I don’t think they are waiting until a vaccine. There is a lot of politics with this. Here the Vet board said that practices with larger offices can open up more but not sure if any actually have. In one of my groups a person told her vet she was coming in and did and they didn’t do anything but who knows if that would work everywhere or not. The receptionist and stuff aren’t even wearing masks anymore. It seems like these vets are all doing something different like it’s not uniform everywhere. Who knows. I just wish they made exceptions for certain things because not everything is one size fits all.

He was lethargic, when he sat his head was hanging inches off the floor, when he walked his head was bent to the floor, he couldn't jump on the sofa or bed. This began about 3:30 afternoon. He eats at 4, he starts bothering me to eat around 3:30, so at this time he is just sitting on the floor, head bent down inches from the floor, once in a while he lifted his head to look at me. I thought it was a new ploy just to eat early, but I never cave in to this pathetic looks. I always tell him "it's not time, you have to wait".

Come 4PM I always say "it's time" in a happy excited voice, he knows it's dinner time, he always jumps up nippy at my finger tips, letting out happy yips and yaps. This did not happen yesterday, no excitement at all, red flag, but he ate, drank water then out to poop.
At 5 / 5:30 I saw he was hesitant to jump on the sofa or my bed, he would look at the sofa then walk away and go to his bed, his head always bent inches off the floor.

His days adventure was trying to capture a chipmunk that was under my free standing deck umbrella. There are 8 channels at the base that chipmunks go into, they can run from one channel to the others. When I let him out the umbrella stand is the first place he goes to, so he caught the scent of prey, usually when there's a chippy under there after a minute or two of Cody running from channel to channel, barking, growling, biting, digging at the base the chippy starts chirping out of fear. Always at that time I bring him in the house to give the chippy time to escape.

Yesterday no chirping, I think maybe a mole or a mouse. Because the crank to open this umbrella is high, taller then I am I have a steel step with a couple of 4x4 wood pieces of wood on top of this step to reach the crank. Well he had pulled the wood off the step, pulled the steel step away from the base which is round and was running from channel to channel. I was watering my flower planters with the garden hose, my back was to him, I heard noise but didn't actually see him moving all these things until I was finished. Then I saw what he had done, this was all in 15 minutes, then I heard chirping, it was a chippy so in the house we came. This was maybe 12:30, when he came in we had to play toss and fetch, he was fine, jumping on and off he sofa bringing back his toy for me to toss again. Then it was nap time, he had to much activity. He woke up close to 3:30. Around the 5:30PM area he was getting worse, 7:30 he is sitting with head inches off the floor like he was staring at something but stayed that way for minutes, then look at me with a plea of mamma help me look on his face / eyes. Was this a case for a vet emergency visit, sometime the receptionist that answers the phone or a tech makes the decision if it's an emergency or not.

In he past with my now passed Matese twice I called I wanted to come in on a emergency visit, twice they put a tech on the phone, she denied me a visit but made an appt. to come in the next day. I had a lot of fights over these denials and reported this tech. On both of these occasions Matese was was kept 5 days, another time 7 days. I haven't seen that tech there for 3 or 4 years, I guess to many complaints against her was filed and my vet let her go. With this COVID the tech comes out to the car to collect the animals, ppl are not allowed to enter the building. Had I called and was denied I would have went anyway and marched into that office, and I would have been hauled out by the state troupers, so I had to think carefully, was this an emergency or could it wait until today. By 9:30 he was worse, I could tell he was in pain, I never had a yorkie look at me with eyes saying mamma, why are you not helping me, if I was denied I would take my chances and go anyway and march right into that office.

When I called I told the receptionist exactly what he did, and the symptoms he had, I have to admit, I did fabricate a lil bit by saying his back was slightly arched, I had to get him in that office that night, who knows, if he ingested a sliver of wood today could have been to late. Thankfully they told me to bring him over but I would have to leave him there over night, that's just what I wanted, professional ppl that know what symptoms to look for. These over night animals are monitored throughout the night with a vet on staff.

Since you only see the tech that takes him from the car I had typed out a note what he did that day and several hours later what his symptoms were.

Driving home all I could do was pounder over what caused this besides to much exercise in one day, more then he is use to. I woke this morning still pondering about this and remembered a few years back he was fence running with a dog on the other side of the fence, I thought it was good exercise and let it continue for 45 minutes before I made him go in the house. Within an hour he was lethargic, couldn't jump on furniture, I called the vet to bring him in on an emergency visit, I knew it was from to much running, he's not use to doing that. I was given muscle relaxer and pain meds and sent home. It took two weeks for his body to fully recover. The symptoms Cody had last night were the same as the fence running only, now he was hanging his head. This morning I called the vets office, asked the receptionist to tell the vet I believe he has sore muscles. Before I called the vets office, I sent my vet an email with the typed note I gave the tech last night but added, now that my mind has cleared I believe he has sore muscles. I know my vet will not see this email until later today or tonight, and reason I called the office.
With-in minutes a tech called me with their findings, he has sprained ligaments in his neck and shoulders, he is on anti-inflammatory meds now. My vet comes in at 5PM today, she is to give him chiropractic treatment, I don't know if he is staying over night, they have to wait until my vet does the treatment and she makes the decision when he gets released. Now I know why he held his head down inches from the floor.

So, shame on me for thinking 15 minutes of crazy activity was good exercise for him since he doesn't get much, now my lil boy is terrified in a cage at the vets. And, because of COVID there are no visiting allowed. I owe my boy big time for my careless behavior in allowing him to have what I thought was fun for him and much needed exercise.

I have to keep in mind that dogs like ppl who over the winter do not get much physical exercise, in Spring we work a little at a time to build up our muscles to heavy duty work again, dogs need the same.
Wanted to add, as much pain Cody had to be in last night, when I put him in his booster seat and drove off, he never once took his eyes off the road, that was the first time ever he has been in the car at night, he seemed to be mesmerized by all the lights lol, I just love this lil guy.
Just wondering: should we all lie to the vet about symtoms our dogs dont have? And try to get techs fired while we lie to skip the line of othre dog owners who need help too? Just dont know. I mean my baby comes first!

This is very snide in my opinion. First off she didn’t lie to skip “the line” she felt her now passed dog was having an emergency and the tech refused her an appointment so she complained about it. In fear that Cody was indeed having an emergency and that they wouldn’t take him she fudged a little to make sure he could get an appointment right away. If I needed to I would do it too. There was no trying to skip the line. The tech did deserve complaints if she was refusing emergency appointments that ended up with the dog needing to be hospitalized. There are two different things you merged together as one! There is another comment I would love to make about your last sentence but I will keep my snide comments to myself!

I mean, she lied, right? Can we agree about that?

And was the lie to get faster service? Or for a different reason? If so, what was fabricating a back problem about? Were there no other pets who needed help or had an appointment?

I am not JUDGING, I have lied to get medicle care just want to make sure were talking about the same thing.

Yeah I LIED to help my dog, unlike you who had a dog with issues, and what did you do, did you seek help? No you wanted to sell the dog, not help the dog. Why are you even on a forum where ppl love their yorkies like they are their children, when our dogs have issues we go to all lengths to fix it or, we don't put our dogs in situations that triggers bad action, unlike you who would rather just throw your dog away then to work out what triggers bad behavior.

I don't owe you an explanation of why I LIED, it's all in my thread.

No it wasn’t a lie, if anything it was an exaggeration. It was to get an emergency appointment not faster service. It was after hours for an emergency not at a time when people make appointments. He did indeed have something wrong with his back! You need to actually read the post because apparently you didn’t fully read it! What is the point of your comments? A dog was in serious pain and you are nit picking to try and start drama!
