Wow! They must be very careless in that hospital.

Idk, this virus has some kind of staying power or it would not have spread sooo quickly. Guess it matters if you have treaded soles or not, too. I would err on the side of caution.

I’m sick of all the civil liberties talk. Just stay home till this passes. Not only will you (in general) risk deadly illness, but you are also threatening others by insisting on exercising your rights. It’s ridiculous. I’ll stop here.

I have actually had to start cutting off reading about it or it sets me up for even more panic attacks then I’m already having daily. I have had to limit my time on Facebook too because it’s all anyone is sharing and talking about and it gets overwhelming and seems to really effect my mental health. I haven’t been inside a store in 3 to 4 weeks or really out minus ridding in the car to get dog meds from the vet so this stuff I guess doesn’t fully pertain to me because I’m not going out until it’s safe. I refuse to be the one to bring it home and kill my grandmother with it. My mother goes out once a week to get groceries minus having to go buy a new washer and dryer yesterday because the dryer died and the washer was holding on by a thread. My dad has no choice and has to go to work luckily he operates heavy machinery and really doesn’t come in contact with many people but is terrified of bring it home and making me sick as well as killing my grandmother. If I sit here and focus on every single way it can get into my house I will end up in the psych ward sedated.

It would be a lot easier if the nuts hadn’t hoarded stuff because now there’s not enough to fully stock up stores so people whether they need certain stuff or not are buying it if they can find it. My mom goes out once a week for groceries/ supplies and because of the nuts in order to get even half the stuff on her list she has to go to 4 stores which just spreads stuff around more. Our dryer died and our washer is getting close so after my dad got off work they had to go to Lowe’s to get a new set (she tried doing curbside pickup and they are days behind and we couldn’t wait), well there is a limited number of people allowed in so they had to wait and when they did finally get to go in some of the people in there where just regularly shopping and just scrolling every isle like everything was normal. I have no idea why people are so selfish but this whole thing has taught me that the majority of people are! My birthday is on Friday and I don’t even get to see my boyfriend of 10 years because we don’t live together yet other people can’t suck it up. Sorry ranting. I just want everyone to try and do everything they can so we can get this done and return back to normal.

Totally agree with you. As of today, Marylanders have to wear masks when out and about. I’ve been sick for 5 weeks and haven‘t been to any stores, only shopping online here. Recurring stomach flu and intermittent dry cough, no fever nor aches or chills. Can’t wait for the tests and vaccine. Just a long Staycation.

It's not so bad to quarantine shoes we just wore outside around others, likely one or more of them sick with or carrying Covid 19, on the porch or in the garage or something like that. I have 4 or 5 pairs of clogs and I am always wearing a pair, washing a pair, etc.

I also stopped daily reading and watching the news reports, it gets to overwhelming, I would be in a psych ward right next to you . I order groceries on line, so far no rx is needed but I will do the drive thru when I have to. So far I have been able to stay out of stores. The bad thing is March 23rd Home Depot delivered a badly needed washing machine and dryer. The delivery men broke the cold water hook up. The water shooting out of the pipe was like a Yellowstone park geyser, I had a catastrophic flood in 4 rooms. I had to have a water mitigator team of 5 ppl in my house to get the water out. Floors, walls and installation had be removed.
Now I have a contractor and two workers removing and replace more flooring, putting back walls, installation and vinyl flooring down, tomorrow makes it 5 days they are here and back on Monday to continue. I put Cody in another room so ppl don’t touch him / pet him. Poor thing is locked up for 8 hours with 3 potty breaks.
So here I am trying to stay safe, now having 8 strangers in my house, I cannot wear a mask for 8 hours, it’s difficult to draw in air. I wipe everything down with Lysol after they leave, I damp wipe the new vinyl floors with lyson disinfectant, vacuum all carpeting which I don’t know if vacuuming carpet will get Corona virus up if any of these ppl are carrying it on there deep grooved boots. All day I am washing my hands.
I am a nervous wreck having these ppl in my house at a time like this. I don’t need to be hearing or reading more about this virus, things change from day to day about distancing. I watch the news only once a week now. This virus is not leaving anytime soon.

Aw, no need to worry yourself sick when just a few steps of sensible care-taking can make you and yours as safe as possible as the virus can't walk itself into your home and leech onto your hands and into your nose and mouth. And most who get it do make it through it, even super-elderly age 85 and over. I hear and see so many reports of people still being out and about, living lives almost as usual with little to no social distancing, still having get-togethers, dates, family dinners, that it's likely a good deal of them and their elderly friends, relatives getting Covid 19 and passing it on.

The heedless behavior of far too many people and the non-compliance with simple steps for staying safe and failure to stay 6+ feet from each other likely make up the majority of those getting sick or carrying the virus to others as the rest of us aren't recklessly living lives as usual as so many still are.

A friend sent this. I thought you all might enjoy it. It puts things/Today's World back into perspective.





I talked with a man today, an 80+ year old man. I asked him if there was
anything I can get him while this Coronavirus scare was gripping America.


He simply smiled, looked away and said:


"Let me tell you what I need! I need to believe, at some point, this
country my generation fought for... I need to believe this nation we handed
safely to our children and their children...


I need to know this generation will quit being a bunch of sissies...that
they respect what they've been given...that they've earned what others
sacrificed for."


I wasn't sure where the conversation was going or if it was going anywhere
at all. So, I sat there, quietly observing.


"You know, I was a little boy during WWII. Those were scary days. We
didn't know if we were going to be speaking English, German or Japanese at
the end of the war. There was no certainty, no guarantees like Americans
enjoy today.


And no home went without sacrifice or loss. Every house, up and down every
street, had someone in harm's way. Maybe their Daddy was a soldier, maybe
their son was a sailor, maybe it was an uncle. Sometimes it was the whole
damn family...fathers, sons, uncles...


Having someone, you love, sent off to war...it wasn't less frightening than
it is today. It was scary as Hell. If anything, it was more frightening.
We didn't have battle front news. We didn't have email or cellphones. You
sent them away and you hoped...you prayed. You may not hear from them for
months, if ever. Sometimes a mother was getting her son's letters the same
day Dad was comforting her over their child's death.


And we sacrificed. You couldn't buy things. Everything was rationed. You
were only allowed so much milk per month, only so much bread, toilet paper.
EVERYTHING was restricted for the war effort. And what you weren't using,
what you didn't need, things you threw away, they were saved and sorted for
the war effort. My generation was the original recycling movement in
America.


And we had viruses back then...serious viruses. Things like polio, measles,
and such. It was nothing to walk to school and pass a house or two that was
quarantined. We didn't shut down our schools. We didn't shut down our
cities. We carried on, without masks, without hand sanitizer. And do you
know what? We persevered. We overcame. We didn't attack our President, we
came together. We rallied around the flag for the war. Thick or thin, we
were in it to win. And we would lose more boys in an hour of combat than we
lose in entire wars today."


He slowly looked away again. Maybe I saw a small tear in the corner of his
eye. Then he continued:


"Today's kids don't know sacrifice. They think a sacrifice is not having
coverage on their phone while they freely drive across the country. Today's
kids are selfish and spoiled. In my generation, we looked out for our
elders. We helped out with single moms who's husbands were either at war or
dead from war. Today's kids rush the store, buying everything they can...no
concern for anyone but themselves. It's shameful the way Americans behave
these days. None of them deserve the sacrifices their granddads made.


So, no I don't need anything. I appreciate your offer but, I know I've been
through worse things than this virus. But maybe I should be asking you,
what can I do to help you? Do you have enough pop to get through this,
enough steak? Will you be able to survive with 113 channels on your tv?"


I smiled, fighting back a tear of my own...now humbled by a man in his 80's.
All I could do was thank him for the history lesson, leave my number for
emergency and leave with my ego firmly tucked in my rear.


I talked to a man today. A real man. An American man from an era long gone
and forgotten. We will never understand the sacrifices. We will never
fully earn their sacrifices. But we should work harder to learn about
them..learn from them...to respect them.

Sobering read all adults should see. Imagine if the mortality rate of this virus were way higher. Thankfully, it's not as far as we know at this point. Like the space program, trauma medicine from war and 9/11, etc., we'll undoubtedly learn a great deal from this world-wide experience that will help all of us manage an even deadlier disease or disaster as we gear up to respond to different to the needs from this disease.

I was just a toddler during WWII but remember the rationing and once in grade school remember the paper drives. I just read Marna1957 post, too. Another sobering read that shows the stamina of humans as they process great tragedies and acute lifestyle changes that life in this world brings. My mother told me of her family doing without their wringer-type washing machine due to lack of parts, their local grocer keeping back cans of evaporated milk or a small bag of processed white sugar just for them, while keeping back other items for other regular shoppers, depending on their family's needs. And going to the grocery store meant bringing the groceries home in a wagon an older child or the mother steered home as little gas was available even if there was a car in the garage and Dad was in the War or working in the defense industry. No one had large supplies of anything in their cupboards, no freezers full of meat and gourmet ice cream. No one had perfume, TV's or even enough books that hadn't been read and re-read and re-read. Vital medicines were supplied first to our troops. Many, many ate only when food was available, not when they were nervous, worried or hungry.

After WWII, kids couldn't swim summers or get too hot, then suddenly cool off due to polio fears and a few years later, practiced Duck and Cover in case they saw a sudden bright light in the skies, meaning the country had just been bombed with an atomic or thermonuclear bomb!

We managed to forge ahead and through without undue stressing and very much whining aloud and despite all the suffering and privation going on in every household, we made it. Humans are pretty tough when we have to be.

Oh goodness, I’m so sorry we had a pipe burst in my closet several years ago and it was the closet I kept all the dog stuff in and it ruined a lot of stuff. It ruined my office, bedroom and bedroom closet too and they had to do all that stuff. I can’t imagine having to add in being afraid of the virus coming in too.
