Is anyone familiar with this dog food? Have you fed it to your baby and what is your opinion of the Lamb and Rice.

MY THREAD..FDA names 16 brands of dog food linked to canine heart disease
Natural Balance is on that list
You will have to read the below and decide if you want to feed your baby Natural Balance LID
THERE ARE TWO ARTICLES you should read, in article # 2 I hi-lited in RED a very important ingredient.....this post is too long, I will post the 2nd article on another reply

Has Natural Balance Ever Been Recalled?
Yes. This pet food brand has had a few recalls over the years.
But before we go into the full recall history for Natural Balance, we first want to alert our readers to the fact that, in late June 2019, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) identified Natural Balance as one of 16 pet food brands that may be linked to heart disease in dogs and cats. None of those 16 brands have been recalled as part of the agency’s ongoing investigation, though. Most, but not all, of the pet foods are “grain-free” and/or dry (kibble) dog food formulations. The FDA says this is a “complex scientific issue that may involve multiple factors,” and that it cannot even be certain that diet is a cause of the heart problems. For full details, see our article on the subject.
Now we’ll discuss what actually has been recalled in the past …
For starters, the massive melamine recall of 2007 involved some of the Natural Balance line. Later that year, some Natural Balance products were recalled because botulinum — the toxin that causes botulism — was found in a non–pet food product that was produced in the same plant as the Natural Balance foods.
Also, in 2010 and 2012, there were recalls because of potential salmonella contamination. The full list of Natural Balance recalls appears below.
List of Natural Balance Recalls

Natural Balance LID Chicken and Brown Rice (4 stars) [M]
Natural Balance LID Chicken and Sweet Potato Grain Free was selected to represent the other products in the line for this review.
The first ingredient in this dog food is chicken. Although it is a quality item, raw chicken contains up to 73% water. After cooking, most of that moisture is lost, reducing the meat content to just a fraction of its original weight.
After processing, this item would probably account for a smaller part of the total content of the finished product.
The second ingredient is chicken meal. Chicken meal is considered a meat concentrate and contains nearly 300% more protein than fresh chicken.
The third ingredient is sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are a gluten-free source of complex carbohydrates in dog food. They are naturally rich in dietary fiber and beta carotene.
The fourth ingredient includes peas. Peas are a quality source of carbohydrates. And like all legumes, they’re rich in natural fiber.
However, peas contain about 25% protein, a factor that must be considered when judging the meat content of this dog food.
The fifth ingredient lists garbanzo beans, another member of the fiber-rich legume (pulse) family of vegetables that contains about 22% protein, which must also be considered when evaluating the total protein reported in this recipe.
The next ingredient is potato. Potatoes can be considered a gluten-free source of digestible carbohydrates. Yet with the exception of perhaps their caloric content, potatoes are of only modest nutritional value to a dog.
Next, we find chicken fat. Chicken fat is obtained from rendering chicken, a process similar to making soup in which the fat itself is skimmed from the surface of the liquid.
Chicken fat is high in linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid essential for life. Although it doesn’t sound very appetizing, chicken fat is actually a quality ingredient.
The eighth ingredient is flaxseed, one of the best plant sources of healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Provided they’ve first been ground into a meal, flax seeds are also rich in soluble fiber.
However, flaxseed contains about 19% protein, a factor that must be considered when judging the actual meat content of this dog food.
From here, the list goes on to include a number of other items.
But to be realistic, ingredients located this far down the list (other than nutritional supplements) are not likely to affect the overall rating of this product.
With 5 notable exceptions
First, we find pea fiber, a mixture of both soluble and insoluble dietary fiber derived from pea hulls. Aside from the usual benefits of fiber, this agricultural by-product provides no other nutritional value to a dog.
Next, we note the use of salmon oil, an oil naturally rich in the prized EPA and DHA type of omega-3 fatty acids. These two high quality fats boast the highest bio-availability to dogs and humans.
Depending on its level of freshness and purity, salmon oil should be considered a commendable addition.
Additionally, taurine is added to this food. Taurine is an important amino acid associated with the healthy function of heart muscle. Although taurine is not typically considered essential in canines, some dogs have been shown to be deficient in this critical nutrient.
Since taurine deficiency appears to be more common in pets consuming grain-free diets, we view its presence in this recipe as a positive addition.
Next, we find no mention of probiotics, friendly bacteria applied to the surface of the kibble after processing to help with digestion.
And lastly, this food contains chelated minerals, minerals that have been chemically attached to protein. This makes them easier to absorb. Chelated minerals are usually found in better dog foods.

Natural Balance was on the list of foods causing the heart issues. I think that specific food was on the list another member posted about the heart issues complaints.

You're missing the point of both articles. The point being,
Natural Balance is on the FDA 16 brands of dog food linked to canine heart disease.

Inposting an article one cannot / should not omit anything from an article and reason the recalls are listed.

Natural Balance LID has stated "most" of their food is "grain free" which is on the bag, but also has stated taurine is added to the food Which does not show on the label, they are asking anyone reading these articles to believe them and not believe the FDA.
It is up to the consumer to decide if they want to feed their dog a product that is referred to as "limited ingredients" but also is grain free, it is up to the consumer to believe they add taurine to all their foods when this does not show on their labels. You are the consumer, it's your decision.

I have always had good results with NB, personally. But the FDA warnings are very worrisome. When Jackson was having many stomach issues last year, we finally settled on that he unfortunately does best on grain-free foods. Finding one that is not loaded with peas and legumes (the largest factor/problem in these foods) AND is single protein AND low in fat for his pancreatitis was a huge challenge.

We settled on Royal Canin PW fish and potato kibble moderate calorie kibble for Jackson and Weruva canned to mix with (usually the tuna flavor, but he seems to tolerate chicken okay so does well with Grandma's Chicken soup too -- both of these are acceptable fat levels on a dry matter basis as most cans are NOT). We continued feeding PW and still do but wanted a food as back-up that I could run up to the store and grab (one time it did not get shipped on time from chewy and no vets office in the area had it). NB fish and sweet potato was introduced slowly and lo and behold, his poop is ALWAYS better (firmer and a bit darker - basically a perfect poop lol) on the NB vs. the RC. But due to the heart concerns, we do not feed it full time. With that said, this is one the formulas that does not contain peas and legumes etc. so not AS concerned with it.

Dried Sweet Potatoes, Salmon, Fish Meal, Potato Protein, Canola Oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols), Natural Flavor, Potato Fiber, Salt, DL-Methionine, Salmon Oil, Minerals (Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Sulfate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Sodium Selenite, Manganese Sulfate, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Calcium Iodate), Flaxseed, Potassium Chloride, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin A Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid), Choline Chloride, Citric Acid (preservative), Mixed Tocopherols (preservative), Rosemary Extract.

Joey really really loved the limited ingredients one of their foods with the duck but I got kinda nervous feeding it and buying 2 types was kinda crazy.
