How cold is to cold to walk How cold will you take your fur kids out for a walk? |
First of all, I'm not a fan of cold weather but our little ones need to do outside to do their business. However, Gidget does have a pee pad that she uses when it's impossible to go outside (she doesn't like it though). As long as it's not raining, sleeting or snowing I try to get her outside at least once a day. Our winters aren't usually that cold (seldom gets below 32 during the day). I just bundle us up in a sweater for her and a jacket, hat and gloves for me and take her out even if it's just for a short time. |
I was taking Dexter for half hour walks. I just want to make sure it’s not too cold for him. I don’t know if I’d want to walk him below 32’ |
When I had my pack of 3 they had to be walked every day, they were house broken and would not use indoor pads. Rain, hail, sleet, snow, they were walked. Make sure you put a sweater or coat on Dexter to keep him warm on these walks. If he is pad trained or yard trained there is no reason you should walk him in temps of 32. I had no choice with my girls, no matter how cold it was they had to be walked, they just pottied faster and didn't smell everything in sight lol. |
I worked out in the basement and after I got done Dexter let me know he wanted to go. It was 39 and we just walked to the park and not around it. |
Temp of 39 even for a 10 minuet walk he should have a sweater on. I'm sure you know yorkies do not have under coats therefore they get cold faster then dogs that do. |
Depends on the dog. You can bundle them up. Jackson prefers walking in the cold honestly. As long as it's not like anything below around 25/30 degrees, we will walk. |
First I had to look up what the conversion of Fahrenheit to Celsius. 35 sounded so warm compared to 1. We've taken ours out in minus -1 to -3 which would be 30.2 to 26.6. But they are big Yorkies are wearing coats and one of them mostly rides the mobility scooter, while the other runs. Caleb won't get out of the mobility scooter, (he'll cuddle to my leg) if anything is falling from the sky, rain, hail, snow.. Pip goes a little stir crazy when she can't get out, even though they use a treadmill when we don't go out. She wants to run every day. It gets a lot colder in the states than here, so you must deal with dogs indoor more than us. How do they do when stuck in for long periods? |
My boy does ok up to 8 hours in the house. I think I’ll hold off on the walks if they get colder then the mid 30’s |
1 Attachment(s) This is what Dexter needs for longer winter walks, which may actually be shorter walks lol, I call it the statue suit, my kid doesn't move when he has on lol |
He’s not going to let me put something like that on him |
