Generally reputable breeders won’t sell from sites like that. Mostly those sites have puppy mills and non reputable breeders that sell from them so I wouldn’t recommend that site.

You are correct. They still have to physically check the knees and remove dogs with luxating patella from the breeding population. They are still doing genetic mapping tests of luxating patella in various dog breeds, but it seems to be a complex trait, and the genes tentatively identified in some breeds are not the same as the genes involved in other breeds. A DNA test for luxating patella carriers is still along way off. Here's a link to a recent study of Pomeranians: https://www.sciencedirect.com/scienc...34528816306099. From the study: "The loci identified in Pomeranians were not associated with PL in the cohorts of Dutch Kooiker dogs (Wangdee et al., 2014), Dutch Flat-Coated Retrievers (Lavrijsen et al., 2013), Dutch Labrador Retrievers, Thai Chihuahuas, and Thai Miniature Poodles. The loci involved in PL may be different in these breeds. Apparently many genes influence the PL status and the gene variants involved are not shared across breeds."

Thanks for the info on LP/PL! This is something I will definitely have to ask a breeder then. Are there any other health issues that I need to ask about? Some dogs seem to suffer from PRA - is that the same for Yorkies?

I have been on pets4homes and gumtree and not seen any breeders on there that inspire confidence. Which is why I find it so hard to find a proper breeder as there are none with actual websites..It seems as going though the Kennel Club and asking there is what I need to do.

If anyone on here has any experience of breeders in the UK I would still love to hear! Thanks!

I wonder if the UK has a breed specific club like we do here. You might want to look for that they generally make all the standards for the breed and have strict requirements. Like here we have the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America.
