| Takes a special person to own a yorkie Why I'm Embarrassed to Own a Yorkshire Terrier | Unleashed Doubtfful our friends and family will ever understand The first time I went away for a weekend with my now-husband, he brought along his Yorkshire terrier, Frankie. He took me to the Catskills in his friend’s classic Volkswagen van. We drove up on a Friday in July; the traffic was terrible, it was 95 degrees in the shade, and the air conditioning was broken. But the worst part was that for the entirety of the 5-hour drive, Frankie sat on Caleb’s shoulder, and barked at me. “I don’t know if me and this guy are going to make it,” I group texted my friends. “His dog hates my guts.” Of course, we did make it, and now Frankie is my best friend and fiercest protector. All it took was feeding her treats until she looked like a sausage and bringing her with me wherever I go. The truth about Yorkies is that they are loyal to the death—you just have to work like your life depends on it to get them to love you. And sometimes your life does depend on it—Frankie still attacks our friends every time they walk in our front door, even if she’s met them hundreds of times before

| It kinda seemed stereo typed though. My first yorkie Callie pretty much never barks and if she does we know something is wrong. Penny barks but normally only when Joey does. Joey dosen't bark at everything but is a barker. All of them love people a lot as well as other dogs. It bothers me when people blame what they used to be bred for or anything else when a dog is agreesive because a lot of times it simply due to lack of training or socialization. My dad who is large very tough guy has no issues pushing Callie around in her pink stroller while she is decked out in pink. I just hate the stereotypes put on Yorkies.

| I have raised from puppies 4 female yorkies, my rescue was 2 1/2 yo when I got him, 5 in total and do not fit the description of what I just read. Was I just lucky? Yorkies are an addiction lol, a fantastic breed filled with personality, charm, mischievous lil imps, clowns that fill your life with much laughter and love. Who could be embarrassed to walk a pup that prances like they are royalty. Yes it does take a special person to own a yorkie, a person that adores yorkies and their quirky lil personalities. It was a funny article to read, but IMO was not spot on, on the breed. Thanks for sharing, it gave me my morning chuckle.

| Yorkies steal your heart Cute and funny. Doesn't describe my little pure yorkie at all in terms of behavior. But it is funny that since we've had our little girl, our pup has gone from being "my wife's dog" to "our dog" and my husband carries her with pride. We've also met a lot of couples in the same boat and a lot of men who say "I never thought I'd own a small dog, but I LOVE my yorkie" and express surprise at how much personality these little dogs have. No matter what personality your yorkie has, they are a bundle of fun. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I know this is a Yorkie board, and lets face it we are in the main lovers of Yorkies. But lets not idealize them. They are a breed after me own heart for sure - because of their spunky personality. How-ever yorkies can be badly behaved and quite frankly that is usually the owners fault for not training or even correcting bad behaviour. Dressing them up - I know that many do - I don't other than practical winter wear. I dont take Yorkies around in strollers or my pocket. These are Terriers - they don't need that. My boy swims, dock dives, goes everywhere our big dogs do - and as it should be. They are dogs! To be treated as dogs and to be expected to behave as a good citizen in the home and out n about. They dont get a pass because they are small dogs! My hubby is proud to walk our Yorkie out n about - and he was not a small dog lover when we got him - he now is.. He strutted around with Razzle on the show grounds and loved all the attention he got with him But Yorkies have their challenges. Can be stubborn, can be barky, can be territorial, can be aggressive. It is up to you to shape your Yorkie into a good dog - well behaved and obedient.

| Dexter is our little boy and people visiting know he's a little terror but tolerate him. After friends leave, he goes back to being lovable
