She said it well, as usual. An old school vet we had for one visit gave her the rabies and the all in one vaccine. I spent a very hard weekend on the edge of my seat. Listen to all the advice you'll get here, as you'll hear minimum vaccines, don't do it all at once over and over. That is the very BEST advice you can get, and please follow it to a T.

| ![]() Wylie's Mom, So, what age do you think it is safe not to give any vaccines at all? Would that be for any breed of doggie? If I may ask why do you believe it is ok not to give shots any more at a certain age? Just curious as I never heard about this before. I had a dog who lived to be 16 and always got shots as I never knew you could stop giving them at a certain age. Thanks for your answer.

| ![]() There is a blood test given called a titer test. This shows if the immunities are still present in the dog. Google Dr. Jean Dodds. She has a vaccination schedule which I intend on following when I get my yorkie. My understanding is that many immunities can remain for life. Either way, you can have the titer to be sure. Enjoy your new baby. |

| ![]() Our vet and breeder both recommended holding off on vaccinations because of the small size of our yorkie pup. So, we did. She does have a reaction and I appreciate the comments above about benadryl. We will do that in the future. That said, really discuss with your vet and analyze the geographic regions you regularly visit. It's important to know what you might want to vaccinate for besides the required rabies. Just like when people travel, if you decide to take your pup somewhere you can always vaccinate at that time. We board so we get bordetella. We fly so we always check regulations near our destination. Some areas have heartworm, so that's another consideration. Our daughter's bichon got parvo that came into her house on the boots of a plumbing contractor whose dog had been ill. He didn't even think he could carry it to other homes. The dog survived but it was long, expensive and just awful for the poor dog. We just can't anticipate and control all exposures. And remember it's not all or nothing and your pup's needs may change and require adjustment. |

I wish that children were titer tested to prevent over vaccination! Next time I'm at the vet I am going to ask about this.
