Animal Smiley 036 yorkie pom puppy help

Hi, so I have a 2 year old yorkie and just got a yorkie pom mix. He is 3 months old and had tapeworms and slight kennel cough when I got him. Today I took him to the vet and got medicine for flea prevention and to rid the parasite. Not old enough or ready for second round of vaccines. Anyways just need general info. I've noticed most yorkies act the same. Anyone have experience with this mix breed? I've only had him a few days and he's absolutely adorable but worried about size and temperament? I know alot has to do with training early. Anyone? Or can anyone post pix of their mix?

The one piece of advice I want to give is to *not* get him the kennel cough vaccine again - as that's where he probably contracted it in the first place, from the vaccine itself. It's not a core vaccine, it's not needed. Core vaccines are rabies, and distemper / parvo.

Congrats on you new puppy and welcome to Yorkie Talk. What are you pups names, hope you share photos of your pair

My Lola is a yorkie pom and LOL i have to say I have cutest yorkie pom mix on the planet. I am also blessed because she is a happy little girl, she weighs about 5.5 lbs and loves life, fetches till the cows come home, loves to swim and even dock dives. She looks like a yorkie but fluffier with a LONG tail that is amazing. She is my first mix and after having several purebred yorkies my husband and i were horrified when we realized she still had a tail. Little did i realize this would be her absolute best feature we LOVE her tail and I don't think i will ever get a dog without a tail again. We got Lola when she was three months she is 6 now and shows no sign of slowing down. One thing she does that they say is a pom thing is she spins allot. She runs up with her toy drops it and spins like four times if she thinks she is going for a walk she spins, she spins if she is happy or excited and in general because she plays, walks, and is happy often she spins a lot! Now that being said your pup might not look or act anything like Lola, because when you breed mix breeds it's a crap shoot on what they look like. Lola's brother was 100% brown and looked more like a pom, i have seen them look like foxes and some can be large. I belong to a yorkie meetup group and some of the ladies breed and a few had poms, after seeing how cute Lola is a couple tried breeding yorkie poms and not one has looked like like Lola, one was all golden and one was sort of dark, cute but different from Lola. But at 3 months you should have a good idea of what you pup will look like. Please post photos an again welcome to Yorkie Talk

if you check under my profile there are some more photos a few are without clothing when she was under a year old, it's in an album called Lola being Lola it's easier to see how fluffier she is compared to a traditional yorkie

I just want to say that I am one of those who heeded this advice and have never given my babies the kennel cough vaccine.

Just note that most doggy daycares (in my city anyway) will not accept dogs without the kennel cough vaccine. I have never and don't ever plan on leaving them at a daycare, so it works out well for me.

Well, I can tell you, I've ran into a few mixed breed yorkies- one I've seen quite a bit, and my gal considers her "best" friend. The Yorkie poodle we looked at scared the CRAP out of me, It's energy was ridiculous and i was terrified, I'll be honest!
Her "best" friend Carlie is a yorkie/shnauzer. She is just like any other yorkie I've seen or heard of. She's very, very, similar to my gal- except in one teensy detail. She talks. A lot. Chewie does, too. She always has, She even talks back. Carlie, however, is ridiculously vocal. Chewie will come back barking while husband is eating dinner. I say that, because she will NEVER beg from husband. Me? yes. Husband? No. She even learned to bark like a fiend from Carlie, particularly at this huge dog. This was all newly learned in the last four months. I'm saying this because each dog has personality traits, and in order for you to truly know you'll have to research to know the traits of the Pomeranian, then wait to see if it's a mixture of both, or one more than the other.

*I want to add that my husband's best friend-someone who is "uncle" to my daughter, had a yorkie/coton de tulear mix. She's stubborn and willful, just like a yorkie. She also allowed my 5 month old puppy to dominate her completely. In her own home. And she was 4 at the time. I'm giving you these examples so you'll know it's seriously a toss up.

I don't think she got the kennel cough vaccine on the 3 month old pup he came with kennel cough when she got the pup.

Both kennel cough and tapeworms can be contagious so you probably need to try to keep them separated.

mmmm idk I am no scientist or doctor for that matter... but I uhh I always had thought that when someone gets a shot for something the virus/bacteria are rendered inactive indefinitely... So when it goes in your body it cannot do anything to your system since it cant even function... It's basically "brain dead" (even though virus and stuff probably dont have those)... The point was to basically have your own body educated by inspecting them or something. I didn't pay that much attention in class and I used to(probably still do) have selective hearing... so not sure if this is the case or what.

You know because injecting live bacteria/viruses into a living being doesn't sound like a very bright idea... I mean I get why, but can't it reproduce once its inside a body? So it'll only get worse?

Please educate me on this as I really have no clue. I recall being lectured recently but you know deaf ears... but now I want to know.

You know I always wondered about mixed breeds like a really big dog with a really tiny dog. Chihuahua x pitbull, or yorkie x mastiff , yorkie/chihuahua(meaning either one) x great dane...

Call it a Great Yorkie or a Great Chi lol... Still can't really imagine those.

Or a yorkie x boxer, Yorkie x Dogue de bordeaux, yorkie x newfoundland, Yorkie x english mastiff

I know how you feel about tails. My current yorkie has a tail and I love it. I've also notice that more people are getting yorkies with their tails in tact. With Duchess, I can tell her every move just by watching her tail. I love her tail. I even had people stop me because they had never really seen a yorkie with a tail.

You can have live virus shots. Lots of people talk about getting flu from the flu shot to but it's impossible. I have never had bad reactions from bordatella I get the nasal one and have on my older girl for 10 years no issues, did it on my moms rescue for the 5 or 6 years we had him no issues, on the puppy 2 times no issues. You do have to have it to do any dog things training and everything.

Default thank you guys for all the advice

I just needed to know if anyone had any info on the breed, characteristics, etc. Right now as he gets more settled he is more playful, his cough is going away, and he's vocal but not in a bad way. Also he's easy to train so far and is getting the idea of puppy pad and outside potty time. As far as the parasite problem I just see improvement and hopefully in a week when he goes for his second set of vaccines he'll be as good as new. Also can't upload photos because files are too big. He's a fluffy blue merle.
