Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Female humping??? We have notice lately that our Magic (6 months today) has started humping Sailor (3 1/2 months)...we have tried everything to get her to stop, spraying her with a water bottle, telling her no...but nothing works...she will just stop for a while and do it later on....has anyone else had this experience?? What can we do to stop this behavior??

| OMG! I was just going to post about this today! Gracie (4 1/2 months) has started humping our Black Lab! (Yeah, it's a sight to see!) When Tilda is laying on the floor, Gracie will start humping her knee!!! It's funny to see, but we try not to laugh and instead are yelling at Gracie to stop. I had no idea little girls did these things! I thought that was a little boy issue!!!

| I've seen dogs pretty hell bent on humping....I'd love to know the key to get them to stop. As for Fozzy, (knock, knock) he has not humped even once to date. (Fixed @ 7 months) |

| I had a female chihuahua and a female Maine Coon Cat many years ago. Both the dog and the cat were spayed. They spent half their lives humping each other!!!! We called them "The Odd Couple".....LOL |

| The other posts are right...it is sometimes done to find out who's dominant...I think we human are the only ones uncomfortable about it!! |

| My baby does it too I am so glad to hear that others do this too! My baby girl Hallie used to do this to Simon all the time. I always assumed it was because she was older and trying to show dominance but he doesn't like it! They have been together for 8 months now and she doesn't do it as much but it is still pretty funny |

| Man, I really must be the only person in the world who doesn't think dogs humping is funny. It's downright disgusting and some people sit and watch. My neighbors used to 'make' their yorkie start humping her teddy bear and then sit there and be entertained by it. Excuse me while I go puke. I hope that Bailey doesn't start that. He will learn fast that humping is not acceptable. |

| Yep, it's a pecking order / who's the boss situation. Very very normal.

| Humping is a dominance thing and calling attention to it only negatively re-enforces it. I have found that throwing a larger soft toy during that activity will sometimes distract the dominant one and break up the activity. DO NOT CALL ATTENTION TO IT!! The dogs/pups need to sort out pack order and it is a natural instinct. Let them make their rules if you cannot distract them without making an issue. Joan Rivers dog, Spike, had a girlfriend (a PINK SLIPPER named Loita) and she had to hide Lolita when company came cause he would bring her out and demonstrate his prowess for the compay.. |
