| Puppies can't be fat and he may have hit a growth spurt. He might end up being bigger then standard. Both mine are.

| I have been chewed out because Max is gaining a pound a month. He's 9 lbs now and 10 months old. I figure he'll be a 20 lb yorkie 😀 If he keeps it up. I measure their food and still gaining weight? He went from 4 1/2 lbs to 6 lbs in a month so maybe they have a growth spurt at a certain time in their young life. |

| Lol I was thinking the same about a growth spurt! I too measure his food and as of last week, he seems hungrier then usual! |

| How much are you feeding? My 8 month old puppies are gaining fast all of a sudden, as well. I feed them Natural Balance Puppy, 1/2 cup twice a day. The male weighs 11lb, the female 8lb. They do not look fat, at all, but certainly are filled out. Thank you! |

| Does he stay completely still on the scale? Sunny never does, so his weight seems to fluctuate, when in actuality we just can't ever get a 100% accurate reading. (That being said he's a solid 9lbs, and he'd weigh A LOT more if we fed his as much/as often as he liked! Some dogs just have hearty appetites. My other dog was 75% yorkie 25% chihuahua and was 17lbs.) |

| How much is he eating and what is the fat/protein content? Also, is he getting bigger or just heavier/more dense? Its unclear whether its a matter of growth or just plain-old getting fat. LOL! |

| Poor Max was told he looked like a little brown piglet! I need to walk him to get off those pounds. My scale broke and my husband said Max broke it because he weighs so much. I keep telling everyone it's his fluffy hair.. or big bones. Last weigh in was 9 lbs and vet said he has to get down to 6 lbs. he's tiny everywhere but his waistline. Everyone with larger yorkie are their bodies bigger too? Max has been humiliated! |

How old is he? The way to tell if a dog is over weight is to remember you should be able to feel the ribs but not see them, in a yorkie's case, you have to wait till bath time because of the hair. There is a difference between being a bigger yorkie and a fat little butterball of a yorkie. LOL. | |

| I have a 17lb 8 yr old Yorkie. Vet said she could loose 2 lb, even though he could feel her ribs and she hasn't lost her waist. She is big boned so doesn't look fat. I think our male puppy 8 mo will be Ginger's size. He has the same thick bone structure and is 11.5lb. His sister has small bones, but already weighs 9 lb. When do you know pretty much how much they will weigh as adults? What food and amount are you feeding? |

| It's good to follow the recommended daily amounts for each dog food. But it's also good to check their weight by feeling their body. They should have a waist and you should be able to feel a little bit of their ribs. If their ribs and waist is too pronounce, they're underweight and maybe need more food. If you can't see their waist when you bathe them, they're overweight; you need to make sure they get enough daily exercise and/or feed them less. The shape of their body is a better indicator of what's 'normal' than their weight on the scale.
