Wanted / ISO small girl yorkie! 3 Attachment(s) We are searching for a small girl yorkie to replace our last pup. We are interested in a female 2.5 pounds or less and we must be able to meet with the breeder in person and see the parents. We are located in California but will travel anywhere to meet our future dog. I've attached two photos of what I believe is the "teddy bear" look with the round face and ears and black and brown markings. I love this look and would love to find a reputable breeder. I've also attached a photo of our last girl and we would be ok with this same look as well. |
Wanted - VERY small girl to buy! 3 Attachment(s) Hello everyone! I tried to post this earlier but don't believe it worked. We are looking for a small, 2.5 pound or less female yorkie. I do understand this is not the "standard" size and is often referred to as "teacup" to the dismay of most of the members on this site. Nevertheless, this is the size of our last pup and we want the same size no matter what it's called. I love the look of the shorter muzzle and rounded head and ears that people call "teddy bear" or "doll faced" and also the black and brown coloring that stays instead of turning to steel grey. Our last girl didn't have these features and had a more "standard" face, so we are open to either look but would prefer the shorter snout and teddy face. I understand "teddy bear" isn't an official term so I'm attaching two photos of what I would call a teddy bear style and also a photo of our last girl (being held). We are located in Malibu CA and would like to find a local breeder for ease of transport, however we will travel anywhere in the United States to pick up our next baby. We travel to Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Francisco almost weekly so meeting with a breeder in this state would be very easy for us. We will not place a deposit on a dog until we have met with the breeder and seen the pups mother and father, however we are ok with meeting over FaceTime or Skype first. If anyone has pups available or a litter due, or if you know of a trusted breeder please let me know! We understand these are expensive dogs and are prepared to pay for the right girl! |
Hi - why less than 2.5 pounds  - that is unbelievably small...? My Marcel is 4 lbs and Pfeiffer is about 4.5, and they are *tiny*. I'm a little nervous about what you're going to end up with here, looking for such a teeny, tiny one. |
With all due respect, I am not an advocate of such small dogs and would never recommend anyone to buy one so small. I'm not sure there is such a thing as a reputable breeder who would breed a 2.5 lb (or less ) Yorkie and want to sell him/her. Just purely for my own curiosity, how old was your last pup? |

She is about 4.5 years old now. She didn't pass away, she was taken during a big legal battle. |
There is no way to guarantee the size of a puppy. A reputable breeder would never breed for that size so it will be hard to find one that small. Getting one from a reputable breeder that is a bit bigger would be better. When your dealing with a pup under 5 pounds it can be hard to spay/neuter and do dentals and other surgeries. Sure you could buy from a bad breeder that advertises teacups but the pup could end up being much larger and full of health issues. You should know a little bit more about breeders who breed for these tiny size dogs. Generally they take a female dog that is very small and under the 5 pound weight that any breeding female should be to safely breed and they put her life at risk sometimes they make it sometimes they don't. When the puppies start getting a bit big they will give them diet food and or very little food or avoid that by lieing about the age and giving you a pup that should still be nursing from their mother. If you want to support that then go ahead. But honestly why not just go for a healthy well bred pup from a reputable breeder. What happens if you get a pup that ends up getting bigger then what you wanted? |

I would be *super* super careful who you buy from. ANY breeder who says "yeah, I can gurarantee 2.5 lbs is unethical and you should not expect a good outcome from that. That said, I do have the info for 1 breeder in the NE who I will give you the info for. I think she will be both able to satisfy your size hopes, while also still being ethical and animal-loving. I will private message you. |

Dogs have a way of making you love them so don't waste time looking for a tiny dog that may very well end up sick. A healthy standard size pup will do just Fine! Also, you won't have to deal with headaches that could come with a poorly bred, fragile dog. |
The said size is hard to find as the majority of the breeders nowadays ensures that the dogs that they sell are good quality from their weight to size. Small puppies are vulnerable reason why they need to have more attention than the other pups. I believe that no pets are alike and it will be pretty hard for you to find a similar puppy from the ones that you've lost. |
Sounds like you have your priorities mixed up, you are looking for a vanity accessory not a family member. Hopefully you will re evaluate your motives and good to Petfinder.com to adopt a dog that will give you a lifetime of loyalty and companionship. |

You nailed it, dogs are like children no matter how many you have neither can replace the other...hopefully she will find a healthy baby and love him/her no matter the size |
Our new pup & my concern 3 Attachment(s) Hi everyone, thank you for all your replies. After a couple months of searching and having no luck with breeders we finally found a breeder that had dogs in Las Vegas and I inquired about them. I fell in love with a cute little girl that I thought was perfect and she was only $3,700, but the breeder let it slip to my boyfriend that she would be 3.5-4 lbs and he didn't want to buy a dog that size. The breeder mentioned his family in Korea (this is where my bf's last pup was from) would have smaller pups and he managed to find a teeny tiny girl for us. We Skyped with the Korean breeder twice and looked at the conditions there, and they were surprisingly immaculate. We Skyped with the puppy as well and got to see her run around to make sure she was healthy. We ended up buying her (she was $5,800) and she is set to be shipped out in three weeks around April 15th. Here is my concern, please help if you have any experience with this. I am afraid of shipping a pup this small alone from Korea and would prefer to fly out and bring her back myself but my boyfriend feels it would be dangerous for me to go. The breeder told us this puppy was "around two months old," but to me she looks younger. This worries me because the flight is around 10-11 hours and if she doesn't eat she will have blood sugar problems. I am not an expert at aging pups but something tells me she looks more like 5-6 weeks, and if thats the case I don't want her shipped until she's about 12 weeks old. Can anyone give an educated guess to how old she is? Also, we have decided to get her a friend to grow up with but this time it's my choice on which dog we get. I'm looking for another yorkie, boy or girl, but one located in the United States and still small but around 3-5 pounds. |

very sad to read this, i would like to say more but would probably loose my membership and it's not worth it for those that choose not to take advice from people that have more experience that your @&F boyfriend. I sure hope you get what you are expecting and God help that poor little puppy being shipped like cargo all the way from Korea:(:(:( Good luck with the boyfriend and don't get to attached to the puppy............. |

Im pretty sure that puppy has hydrocephalus. I wouldn't get that pup let alone ship it by itself. |

There are no guarantee's in LIFE - much less breeding. Breeders - on occasion - have tiny ones. But again, no one knows exactly when. If they do get a tiny one - they keep them a lot longer to make sure they're ok when they go to a new home. Here's the link to the national Yorkie club. They list breeders by state. I came on this forum looking for suggestions on breeders that some of you could recommend so that we didn't have to buy from Korea or another foreign place, and guess what, only two people were actually helpful, the other comments were like yours and entirely unnecessary. Then, I wrote that I want to fly to Korea myself and fly home with her to make sure she's safe, but you judge me to be unethical? Your opinion of me can go where the sun doesn't shine. Here's a bit of stinging truth for you: This forum runs on donations, do you think new members are going to want to join and donate when people like you go about writing rude comments about other peoples actions? Do you think the owners of this forum are going to want to keep people like you around when you're so off-putting to other members? I doubt it. Here's some more stinging truth: People want these dogs and they will go to great lengths to get them and spend great amounts of money on them. Instead of sitting around berating people searching for them on here, why not actually send them helpful information to a breeder you know that sometimes has small pups so that they don't go find a dog on Craigslist or a random website or some hoarding breeder out in Iowa or someplace. These dogs are born, it happens, there's nothing you can do to stop it and there's absolutely nothing you can do to stop people from buying them. You are part of the problem, not the breeders in Korea. |

As I said before, good luck. I'm sure you will get the permissive support you are seeking from someone else. |

Based purely on the information from your posts and what most members believe to be ethical, our response has been that there are no reputable breeders who deliberately breed to sell puppies so small. Again, as was posted by cj125, here is a list of breeders by state who are listed in the Yorkshire Terrier Club of Ameria, where you may find reputable breeders: Dog Breeders Map List- The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America In addition, here is some information on ethics from the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America on the size of Yorkie you're looking for: http://www.theyorkshireterrierclubof...ocs/Teacup.pdf Try not to take anything personal. Because everyone's concern is only with the puppy's health. Hopefully you can take a step back and see this too. But you're absolutely right. No one can control how small a dog you want to buy, after being made aware that there are such high health risks involved. We can only inform you on what's general knowledge, such as the information in the above link about Teacups. And with this knowledge in mind, we cannot recommend further action to do something we don't believe in. It is rather unfortunate. And there are several red flags. If you're insistent with your plan, then where you fly to pick up the tiny Yorkie is beyond that and maybe more of a discussion you could have with your family and bf instead. |
