| The RED FLAGS I see are the words , TEACUP, TINY, have ALL SIZES. A GOOD breeder does NOT breed for "tiny" dogs. The yorkie IS in the "toy breed class" there is NO SUCH thing as a "tiny" or a "toy" yorkie. There is one size only and that is "standard" which is 5 to 7 pounds" . Any breeder that advertises they have "toy" "teacup" "tiny" yorkies uses these words as a ploy to charge big bucks for under standard size yorkies. I am formally from NY, The Bronx and had checked out some of these so called "breeders" in Bklyn, what I found were many were BROKERS not BREEDERS, they buy litters from puppy mills reason why they have dogs of many sizes.... Also beware of "The Puppy Boutique" 8002 17th Ave, Bklyn, NY (Bensonhurst) (if they still exist) This is NOT a breeder, it is a BROKER, they buy litter of puppies from puppy mills. They charge top dollar ($2000 plus) for puppy mills dogs. You should look for a breeder that breeds for their next champion, their next show quality dog, these breeders check back several generation on their breeding pair to ensure there are no genetic defects. Out of a litter they will select what they feel may be show quality puppies and sell the rest. You would not be buying a "show quality" pup, you would be buying a healthy puppy. You may pay more up front for the puppy but will save down the road in vet bills, and heart break. You may have to look outside the NY metropolitan area for a reputable, quality breeder but it will be so worth it.

| I agree, I would give this breeder a BIG FAT NO ! Notice there are NO pics of the parents AND no mention of them anywhere in the site either. My guess is that this is a puppy broker & the pups are most likely from various PUPPY MILLS and/or BACK YARD BREEDERS. Run FAST the other way. |

A reputable will let you come to see their puppies, see the breeding pair, see where the puppies are kept, are they raised in a home living situation, they will not let the babies go to buyer until puppy is 13 weeks old, between 8 weeks and 13 weeks old is a very important time in a puppies life. In this time the momma is teaching her babies biting inhibition, what is acceptable soft play biting and hard rough biting is NOT acceptable, which will make the potential buyers a lot happier. A reputable breeder will have given the puppy their first puppy vaccine at the proper age. A reputable breeder will offer you a good health guarantee against genetic defects and will be there for you for the life time of the puppy, meaning any questions you may want to ask AFTER you buy your puppy the breeder will always try to answer any questions you many have. A reputable breeder should be concerned who they are selling their puppies to, such as your knowledge about the yorkie breed, your home living situation as far as safety for their puppies, and should be asking you as many questions you will be asking them. Not just take your money and wish you “good luck” A reputable breeder will have the Momma on the premises so you can see her, the Sire may not always be available if the breeder used an outside stud. A reputable breeder will have started to pad train the puppies. This is just the tip of the ice berg “so to speak” . These breeders are kinda local for you, easy to go and visit, see the puppies, see how they live, what their living conditions are. Hopefully other members will chime in with other suggestions of questions you should be asking when looking to buy a puppy.

| I'm currently looking to add a pup to our home too. It's hard to find honest breeders. From my experience, this site is too light on info. If a breeder is going to have a website they should at least include pictures of the parents with their names and pictures of the pups! I have found many breeders don't even have websites at all and you have to know codes and secret handshakes to find them. Steer away from websites with overly cheesey photo shoots with too much staging, posing pups in "tea cups" or next to items to prove how small they are. Stay away from anyone bragging on how small the puppies will grow to be, within the standard is best for you and the pup. |

| If you don't find a reputable breeder in your area, your next bet would be to look further to find one. Just make sure to be patient during your search and not settle on an unethical breeder who's selling teacups as a business. You'll deeply regret it later on... One YT member (lovestiny, she hasn't been as active here lately) from NJ flew to Ontario, Canada to pick up her baby from Rigair Yorkies of Rigair Yorkshire Terriers CKC Reg. We breed only top quality yorkshire terriers . This breeder seems to be actively competing and have a good breeding program. I would trust them to buy a healthy yorkie if I was looking for one myself. If they don't have available puppies, I would then consider asking them for recommendations. They may know of breeders closer by you. Show breeders frequently travel across the border to compete in shows and most know each other in the same area.
