13 week old male Yorkie I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I recently brought home a 12 week old male Yorkie. For the second time our little guy began throwing up clear liquid and having a twitching type movement along with running around rubbing his face into the carpet. we figured out the reason he was having this problem. Apparently puppies can become hypoglycemic. We had a party yesterday with many people at the house and he was not able to eat due to all the excitement. I read a forum on here about this and was able to give him just a touch of honey along with some chicken and within a half hour he was back to normal. Has anyone else done with this ? What does everyone else feed their Yorkie puppy?

Can't be too careful with pups, I would get a vet check immediately.

Yes, I've had to give nutrical to one of my dogs when she was a puppy. My vet recommended I give it twice a day for a couple weeks as a means to prevent hypoglycemia. Not every puppy will need it. My little one was, well, little. And I think that was one of the reasons my vet recommended I give nutrical for a couple weeks for prevention of hypoglycemia. Plus the stress of moving to a new environment. She's never showed symptoms of hypoglycemia. And I thought it was a great thing to do to prevent it for a little while until she got bigger and wouldn't be as susceptible to getting hypoglycemia. When my kiddos were puppies I fed them Natures Variety Instinct Raw Boost kibble for puppies. I like Natures Variety and I also liked that that food is complete and balanced for puppies. It's nutritional profile is for a growing puppy. I switched to that food very soon and very quickly off of the breeders food. An early and quick change of food is not generally recommended, but I figured I pretty much had to because my puppies were barely eating and I figured a new food would be enticing. It worked and I luckily didn't have any issues. Anyways, definitely take the puppy to the vet for a checkup, getting on a vaccination schedule, asking about hypoglycemia, etc.

Lastly, if you give honey or nutrical, it won't hurt your puppy. You can put a good sized blob of it on your fingertip. Basically you don't have to worry about giving too much of it. That's not an issue.

| I would definitely get him into the vet tomorrow. Throwing up is not good and not a sign of hypoglycemia or a healthy pup. I would get nutrical and not honey because I have heard honey has something in it that is not good for puppies.
