Everyone is different, but when I got mine at 5 months, I crate trained them. It was either that or I confined them in a play pen. I would
never let a puppy roam on its own while home alone. I would also
never leave a puppy alone with another animal, dog or cat. It's your duty to keep it safe while you're away from home. Best is in a playpen with nothing around that could hurt him.
