YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Leash free dog parks I am all over the place with this. In a city with leash laws they are the only place you officially can let your dog run. We have had good n bad experiences at them. Mainly with my big male he is not dog aggressive but is a very confident and dominant male. This one park I go to has a code of conduct rules posted. This might explain how most owners are right on top of their dogs if they act out. This one time and it was the worst situation. I stupidly brought both the big boy and my Yorkie in together. A pittie breed I don't know maybe ten minutes later entered with owner on the far side of the park. I only had time to tight leash my Yorkie into the picnic bench . By then that other dog had started to attack my magic. He never saw it coming as he was returning a toy to me. The dog had to leap to try to get magics neck, he failed. Magic spun so quickly it was like he was young again. Then he place his head over that pits back neck and I just knew what he was going to do. He was going to grab dog by the neck and break it. I stopped him. By this time the owner who came at a dead run had arrived. He apologized and leashed dog and left. Then we have had so many pleasant interactions with all my dogs. Getting to know the folks that come and their doggies. Razzle was so enamoured with an Aussie shepherd he did not stop running for 40 minutes. That is so beneficial. Even some are recognizing me. I get aren't you the lady with the big dogs or aren't you the lady with the Yorkie. Lol

| Piper has mucho amor for a Latino pooch she met--I have never-ever seen her so gung-ho, so excited, so playful, with any other dog! It's thee best thing ever watching her race to him, ears back, going 90mph and once close to him, her little tail just a blur she's wagging it so fast! |

| Your perseverance amazes me Gail. So many challenges. Such great potential for a social opportunity that is positive. Such great potential for things to go wrong. Argh.

| Sorta jumpin' in here...It is tricky and one must remain ever-vigilant. After incident w/Akita, Piper is as much on high-alert as I. We don't have a park, per se, and most dogs are leashed, 'most' being operative word. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Well that is somewhat the issue, a risk assessment evaluation. I am ever vigilant in truth more with my big dogs. I just want them to be able to run free sometimes.

| Oh my, how wonderfully wonderful your place must be and if I could do a Genie head nod, we'd be there by now! Piper is already packing her bag---chicken jerky, extra collar with extra bling (after all, we are talking Texas here) and lots and lots of "bones" i.e. little pig-in-a-blanket dog treats--that she rarely eats as they're her favorite to bury. Ready to tear-it-up in Texas! |

| I agree that I am somewhat in the middle with dog parks. I've loved them for years and I find the small dog sections to be easier to manage than the big dogs. I used to allow Jackson in the big dog side because I would usually go with a friend or family member who had a bigger dog. It makes me too nervous now after seeing certain incidents and I don't want to risk it anymore with big dogs that are unknown to me. Many bully breeds and Boxers etc make me nervous for one - Jackson does not appreciate their boisterous play style. So he becomes on the defense and I worry that's a fight he would lose. But on the flip side, it provided sooo many hours of entertainment for Jax, especially when he was younger. He's 8 now and still enjoys a good play with some dogs but he's not as 'into it' so we really go for Lola's sake more so now (2 year old cockapoo). There is nothing better than seeing them run around, free, playing with other dogs and just purely enjoying themselves. I say just be smart about it, be aware of your surroundings, what your dog likes/doesn't like. Pay attention to who is coming in and going out. Many times you get newbies to dog parks who just release their excited dogs into the park and then sit down on the phone the whole time and do not pay attention.

We have a pool and fenced in yard at my dads house but it's probably only half an acre fenced. Our other house has 4 acres but most of it is for the horses, so we have horse fences, which do nothing to keep the pups in. However he's allowed off leash supervised to play etc. I think the fence helps create boundaries even though he could easily crawl under it if that makes sense.

That is just it. Uncaring owners you never know when they come in.
