Floppy ears vs standing up ears I haven't master a small enough picture yet to post but can I ask a favor of those with floppy ear Yorkies? Can you post what they look like as an adult with floppy ears? Max's ears were 1/2 up but I really like the floppy look so kept that heavy puppy hair on them so they didn't go up. Occasionally one goes up but comes down eventually. I'm worried when he's full grown I won't like the look as much as I do now. Would like to compare up or down and trim the hair if I like the look of the ears up more. Thanks! |
I don't have the floppy ear kind but after having a cockerspaniel im glad I don't. Ear infections were awful for me and painful for the dog. I love the floppy look!!! What I don't know is if Yorkies have the same problem. |
1 Attachment(s) This is my Schnae, now passed, she was about 9 yo, floppy ears, she never had any ear infections. |
Schnae Such a cutie with those floppy ears. Like the name you had for her as well |
1 Attachment(s) This was our Kona - she passed in December. We loved her look so much we hope our new puppy keeps her ears down! |
Sweet Kona Precious one too! I see why you like the look. And nice size too. Not too little or too big. |
Lilee's floppy ears Hi my yorkie Lilee had floppy ears ....I loved her ears,,,it just fit her personality,,,i lost her last year in a freak accident :( Floppy ears Lilee |
My first 3 yorkies had floppy eras, I just LOVED the look, then I got my Matese, she had straight HUGE German Shepard ears, I now absolutely LOVE huge straight ears, that's how I got my first little boy Cody. He came to my vet as a rescue, when my vet saw those ears she called me, I had just lost my Matese. Cody's ears reminded my vet of Matese's ears. Cody has a little face with HUGE ears, LOVE them ears lol. |
I think floppy ears are cute but the reason I was drawn to the Yorkshire terrier was the breed standard imagery and because the breed standard states erect upright ears, I would tend to want to encourage that. I love lots of pups who fall outside the standard :embar: I mean- how could your heart not melt? but I think as breed advocates who love what the Yorkshire terrier is. we should strive and advocate for the breed standard. |

Both mine have floppy ears. I love it. I think they would look odd with them standing up |
I'm going to have a silly crazy boy... One ear wants to stand up today, only one 😀 Other doesn't appear to care to even try to stand up. If I ever figure how to get a small picture I'll post my little bubble butt. Maybe his ear is waving to me? |

My Bentley is all the way around different than the standard yorkie. He has floppy ears and weighs 12bs at 6 months. I wouldn't have it any other way! |
3 Attachment(s) My Minnie Bear had floppy ears. Here are a few pics of my teapot angel: |
1 Attachment(s) Here's a picture of my floppy eared big boy! |
I love floppy-down ears! When I looked for my last yorkie puppy, this was my only request. He was adorable. I wish I could figure out how to post his picture. |
I don't know now All the pictures of your floppy ear bigger yorkies are so adorable but I also love the look of the v shaped ears as well. I never knew there were so many who looked that way. Just so doggone cute!!! I have a tiny yorkie and I like the look of all your larger babies. There is some substance to them. I would rather have a larger dog but I did not know he would be so tiny. But he is a cutie I must say. |
1 Attachment(s) I agree that when 'looking' for a specific breed, the breed Standard 'should' probably be what we 'should' look for when choosing a puppy. However, I would not 'try' to 'restrain' prick ears from achieving their correct upright position, even if I 'preferred' the 'down ear' look. 'Genetics' will make the final decision. I don't think there is anything more beautiful than a Yorkie that meets the Standard, but I also don't think there is anything more beautiful than a Yorkie that doesn't meet the Standard. :D My Yorkie 'kids' had loving homes before coming to live with me as adults, and they are all different, but I am thrilled with how each of my little loves looks, and here's why...left to right, my 'prissy baby boy'...full tail, down ears, long coat; my 'Miss Hyperactive'...down ears, all golden, long coat; and my 'Dora the Explorer'...up ears, long coat. Your baby will be gorgeous...like all Yorkies! :D |
Three babies three Navillusc, The pictures of your three yorkies are wonderful and they are all gorgeous. I think though that I like best the one with the upright ears. Looks like a Yorkie to me with the ears that way. |
1 Attachment(s) My Cricket has floppy ears. She is 3 years old and about 8 lbs. I'll admit, In the beginning I was bummed her ears didn't stand up. Sorry the picture is SO small! Attachment 410487 |

Everyone's babies are sooooo cute! I couldn't stand it anymore so off to the groomer to shave the tips of his ears. Sure enough up they both went. It would have drove me crazy with one up and one down... I kept raising the lazy one and it went up and stayed. I was worried his ears were too big for his face but with them shaved they are tiny little ears! |
Looking for info- I have a 2 yo Yorkie and all of a sudden his right ear went floppy? I have since trimmed it back, went to the vet just to rule out infection. My vet says it just might be weak cartilage? That it happens- I love him and doesn't care but want to make sure I take care of him anyone else have this happen it's been floppy about 3 mos now? Thanks |
Our little Lilly's ears were upright from four weeks and when we eventually fetch echoed her from the airport a few weeks later those pointers were the first thing out the crate. We love the pointy ears from an infection point of view as well as it suits her personality. A friend of ours has has a twelve year old little male with floppy ears whose very chilled and it suits his personality perfectly. |
1 Attachment(s) My Pepper's ears stand up but they are not real pointed. And my groomer trims his ears to look even more rounded. It makes him look like he has bat ears! It's so cute when he rotates them. |
