Update and anyone with yorkie betw 3-5lbs adult size? Hi everyone, Previously I posted that I was preparing for a puppy and my search for one :) After research and bugging so many breeders with tons of questions I agreed with the first one I talked with who was clearly (after investigating the whole thing like Sherlock Holmes) the most reputable breeder with experience of 20 years I have found in my area + he showed me the entire bloodline with all the info you can imagine! Dad is 3lb and mom 5lbs. I made a mistake in my previous post that the mom was 2.8lbs. Sorry about that! The breeder said my puppy (I think I'll name her Marie) will be between 3-5lbs which is a good size, right? I also got a puppyren (like a tent instead of a crate) Can't wait till she is born in Sept. Thank you YorkieTalk for this site and members as this has truly helped me so much preparing for my puppy with info I haven't been able to find elsewhere! |
2 of my 4 dogs are about 4 lbs - I love this size - great for travel :). |
Congratulations! I'm very happy for you. I've had five Yorkies and one before them with my mom. Three were in the 3-4 pound size, one special little one, Gracie, who was a little less than three pounds, and two around seven pounds. I've loved each and every one. I had to be much more careful with Gracie than I do with Katie, who is very athletic, although Gracie still tore around the backyard and the house like a flash. A good breeder breeds for health, temperament, and conformation, and it makes all of the difference in the world. I wish you the love, laughter, and happiness with Marie that my little girls have given me through the years and also for a healthy little girl. |
Mac is 4.5 lbs ball of energy congratulations |
Thank you so much. I can't wait to share pictures with you all! I have one month to go until it's born and between 8-12 weeks old I might be allowed to take it home (breeder is very strict and protective about his yorkies lol). In the meanwhile I can't resist buying stuff here and there! I saw Nootie shampoo and spray (vanilla pea), anyone ever tried this stuff? For toothpaste and toothbrush i saw the Topiclear puppy dental kit! Thoughts anyone? |
I hope you know what you are doing. In your previous thread you insisted the size of the female breeder was 2.8 ... you even said to Yorkiemom1 that it was not a typo. Now, you say it was a typo which I do hope it was. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...s-puppy-2.html I also pray, that in your search for a tiny yorkie, you are getting one from a reputable breeder. To reiterate what others have said in the previous thread, these people who breed for tinies do not do anyone any favors...only their pocketbooks. Over the years I have seen and dealt with the horrible congenital issues that come with this type of breeding. Reputable breeders simply don't breed for tinies....sure they get some tiny ones but that is not the goal. I am not trying to be hard on you...I am just letting you know that IF this person is breeding for tinies, please rethink because you may end up with a very sickly pup. |

LadyJane: Thank you for your reply. In previous post the 2.8lbs mom wasn't a typo at all as I said (sorry for the confusion), but my upcoming puppy now is from a different mom who is 5lbs and same dad who is 3lbs. I don't think you are being hard on me, it's an honour that someone cares so much and tries to prevent any issues I might have if I don't choose wisely! I honestly did my research and getting a puppy whatever breed and size can always be a risk. There are a few other breeders but I turned away as they bred many different breeds and wanted one that dedicated to yorkies only. This was the ONLY one. I do prefer a smaller one (under 5lbs and above 2.5lbs which the breeder is aware of) for myself but again this is an estimated size based on bloodline and parents. There is always a chance my future puppy turns out to be a moose (or a mouse)! I don't know exactly when I can bring her home. 12 weeks is fine as long as I can visit her regularly :p |
Thank you Weylie's mom: Yes, I will take my Marie everywhere I am allowed to cause I want her to learn to socialize as soon as she had all her shots. Thank you Lisaly & Thank you Patchesmom10: I am very excited! |

LOL I have a moose for a foster and I love him ! :D:p:) Looking forward to meeting your mouse or moose! |

I wonder if the confusion is because 2.8 kg would be about 5 lbs. and she is from a country that uses metric?????? |

No, the OTHER mom yorkie was really 2.8 lbs (1.3kg) - I KNOW it's small! The 2 pups of that litter (from March) are about 2 lbs at 5 months, one of them is still with the breeder. The mom yorkie who is carrying my puppy (Marie) is 5lbs and is having a litter in Sept with the same dad from the litter in March. The breeder said the estimated size is 3-5lbs. So in short : 2 female yorkies ( 2.8lbs and 5 lbs) and one male (3lbs). :p |
Still have concerns here. Reputable breeders would not give you a pup under 12 weeks old or older. Additionally, no reputable breeder will breed a bitch that is under 5 pounds regardless of the age, due to risk of loosing the bitch and/or the puppies and the possibility of a C-section. I hope you will consider them issues that are being presented to you when purchasing your pup! |

I believe these people are devoted to yorkies and really knows what they are doing as they been doing it for so long. The litter in March went fine with the 2.8lbs mom. The mom of Marie is 5lbs which is the upcoming litter. I feel I am doing the right thing and I truly believe that after all my research that the breeder is really good despite if his choice of yorkies are on the smaller side (under 5lbs). I'm sure there are even better breeders - who knows! I'm doing my best :) |

As far as my experience, they will follow you like a shadow- be careful or be ready to take weight off of your feet. I made the mistake ONCE and I threw my weight down. She wasn't hurt, I was scared and guilty. Some are skittish; mine is. She likes to be perched and on my arm while we are out- unless she's doing therapy training and she'll have to be on a leash. Be careful with that, if Marie is skittish. On your arm, I mean. The closer you hold them, the more scared they are later in public. Now I have her perched on my one arm and her paws resting on my hands. That way, she's secure but can explore the world. She's tiny so she can bottom feed that much more, and the places she gets to will make me shake my head. They eat EVERYTHING so be very very careful with that, too. anything under couch, cupboards- heck anything you think may even be too small, don't give her access to. Have people be very, very, careful. My husband once tugged her up accidentally playing tug of war. He was being gentle, too, but had to learn that gentle wasn't good enough. If there are kids, I'd say no to holding. My daughter at 11 was almost too young. Make sure she eats a snacks and three (or two and food to graze) meals a day. I also give her a snack before bed. I'm just paranoid of low blood sugar. She loves to snuggle in just about anything, and will also steal my shirts out of the hamper to snuggle in, too. If you make a bed, or take a blanket off the floor or couch, check to make sure she's in it. I've heard horror stories so I do that each time. That's about all I can think of. I'll try again to post a picture so hopefully one will stick. Oh, one other thing. Chewie ate a wet dog food once that made her very sick. One that has reviews and "great" ingredients and better quality.Stay away from fats and rich foods. Even if they are specially formulated for puppies, they aren't for THESE puppies. |

Thank you yorkiemini. 4 lbs is such a cute size!! Thank you Jenna penny. Your tips has been so helpful. And will take note to every word you typed! Your baby is so gorgeous! I will do my best to make her social but knowing me I'd end up with a spoiled pet just like Lily my cat who thinks she is a queen which she is lol she was an abused cat btw so her history is something that led me to give her the best life I can but I don't like that she isn't very social unless she saw a person 100000000 times. She never scratches or attacks but ignores new people by pretending to be sleeping with one eye open lol literally she really does this. I will put a cat bell on Marie's harness so I can at least spot her and be very careful if she isn't under blankets. I bought a puppyren (it's like a crate for camping) so she is safe. My best friend from NJ USA has a yorkie Angel 9lbs 11y young and never sick a day in her life. We just talked about Angel when she was a puppy. My best friend calls puppies teacups. She thinks it just describes the size of any small dogs. She even would call a great Dane puppy a teacup. I am thrilled about a yorkie and all the great things I see and hear. I know it's like having a baby like my best friend said but ooohhhh I can't wait!! |
2 Attachment(s) Here...go read about this precious baby, Nessa, who never stood a chance. Ill bred and sold for $100 to some unsuspecting person who should have known something was wrong. Nessa only weighed 1.5 lbs when she came to YHR. This is a recent story and tore all of us up. She is not the only one we have had like this....a few have survived and a few have not. :( :( Darling little "teacup" .. UGH Haven's Angels Attachment 410218 Attachment 410219 |

This one was Mindy ... she had a liver condition that was so rare that Dr. Tobias at the University of TN had never seen one before. The specialists in Houston had called her for a second opinion. Sadly, there was no fix for Mindy and we had to let her go to Rainbow Bridge. I will never forget having to hold that precious baby, letting her go to be an angel. She didn't deserve it ... all for someone's greed. yorkiehavenrescue.com/angels.php#MindyTX OK....enough pain for one night. I am sharing with the hope that someone will stop and think before buying an ill bred "tiny" or "teacup" pup. If not the OP here, then perhaps someone some day. These stories make one sick, but they need to be shared...if it only saves one person and/or one pup from a miserable life. REMEMBER when you buy a puppy from a bad breeder, you are supporting them and encouraging them to continue making pups suffer. |

Oh...and btw, neither of the puppies I just shared came from a puppy mill. They were from single breeders in the towns where they were turned over. One in New Orleans and the other in Houston. |

Darling little "teacup" .. UGH I'm not getting a teacup.................... As I said I did do my research and I am well aware that very very small dogs are prone to these diseases BUT healthy bloodline parents of 5lbs mom and 3 lbs dad with estimated puppies of 3 to 5 lbs sounds fine to me and even the previous litter was from a smaller mom, the mom is doing great now and her 2 puppies are just gorgeous, one is sold already cause the breeder kept it for 16 weeks. One is 5 months now at 2.5lbs super healthy and looks sturdy for his size too and I was tempted to get it but I really want a girl lol I'm sorry you feel this is a bad breeder but there are breeders with 7lbs yorkies who are puppy mills and you can get unhealthy puppies too. So small doesn't mean unhealthy and standard or larger doesn't mean healthy. For me above 9lbs is large btw like my best friends yorkie who is truly a sweetheart and wouldn't mind if ever mine gets that big. But if given the choice I'd go for smaller ones for many other reasons. |
