| ![]() Last week I went on vacation with Boomer and Thumper for the first time. We rented a car and drove up to Maine to spend time with my family. They love car rides usually, but I think the 10 hour car ride was too much for them. They got really car sick twice before I ended up putting them in their carrier. The carrier I believe helped with the car sickness. I never expected it because they usually do really well when I take them in cars. As a result of me trying not to get the puke on the seats other than their blanket I ended up in two minor car accidents. So now I need to deal with rental insurances and the what not. Very frustrating. One on the way there and when returning the car because I was just exhausted and overwhelmed with the whole trip. When we were at the cabin. The dogs did great. However, Thumper, who I call my old man, as he is very stubborn would not walk in the woods. I had to carry him until we reached pavement. My family was another issue with them. They have never been around small dogs lap dogs. All my dogs wanted to do was cuddle with me. Well I was told they were not allowed on my lap on the couch. This was difficult as they couldn't understand why they could not sit with me. I spent the majority of my time in my room as they could snuggle with me there. Overall, it was a very stressful trip for them and myself included. I don't think I would bring them again. I believe they would much prefer to stay at home with their dog walker who could keep them on their routine then being stressed out by new people. I learned a lot about this trip but boy am I glad it is over.

| ![]() Well, yes, you could leave them at home w/dog walker or...Next time plan a vacation someplace a bit closer, someplace that welcomes dogs and a place that you'll find comfortable and relaxing!!! Just a thought...! |

| ![]() Wow! Glad you survived this stressful trip! I felt stressed out reading your post lol...totally feel for you! I know all about the motion-sick dog. I always try not to feed Casie before any trips, short or long. And really limit her water intake (rather give her small licks of water to stay hydrated). I've also learned to ask before bringing my dogs. Guess we can't assume everyone loves and welcome dogs/Yorkies as part of their family ![]()

| ![]() We do smaller weekend and day trips all the time. This is a family trip that happens every year. They love their dog walker and she treats them like her own so I trust her completely. This is also why I would not kennel them. I did that once and it was a nightmare as well.

| ![]() Like you, we left our previous dog at a kennel once - and omg, she came back covered in poop, smelling like pee and was a mess mentally! So never ever again! (granted, back then there was no internet or reviews to read online) Because of this, I've never left my babies at a kennel either. Only with a friend who owns a Yorkie and my mom who loves them as much as I do.

| ![]() Stressful trip for sure. You're poor babies and poor you, 2 fender benders OMG, when you opened your apt. door did you throw yourself on the floor saying "there's no place like home"? gezzzz I would have. You're lucky to have a wonderful dog walker. My ONE experience with a kennel with my now passed girl was a horrific nightmare, never again would I put my baby in a kennel. Thank goodness you and your fur kids are ok.

| ![]() Ouch to the 2 fender benders. My Nemo's first vacation was a 5 hour car ride. Honestly it was such smooth trip I did not realize I had a puppy with me. I think what helped prior to that was that he was in a crate Every time I traveled. Even if it was 10 minutes to the park. I'm a novice but letting u know what helped me.
