Camping with Yorkies and Other Pets

I was inspired by YT member, Farleys, when talking about her camping trips with her pups.

Thought it might be fun for YT members to share camping experiences... Please post thoughts, comments, or pictures. Would love to hear your experiences especially since this seems to be my new addiction. :D

Just to start it off I have attached two pictures of the Piccolo, Dixie, and Vivi camping at a nearby state park (inside and out of the RV). We are definitely newbies at this.

It doesn't appear that those beautiful babies are exactly 'roughing it' which , in my humble opinion, is as it should be...These two are too darling!! To paraphrase a quote "My idea of roughing it is slow room service." But that's just me!

Thank you Ann. Apparently Piccolo and Vivi felt this was the softest spot in the xpen. Kind of cracked me up.

Too funny about the room service. My neighbors call it glamping. When I was younger a tent was fun, but these old knees just can't take it. :)

I would love to show them, I even downloaded about 20 from my facebook acct to share them here... files are too big even though they went through facebook. Now I have to clear them out of the downloads file. I tried, I really did. :(

We do more rustic camping, the dogs and I mushroom hunt while camping out of an old work van. If my better half goes camping with us, we use a tent, but that's been a couple years.

MarkFromSea, have you tried something like this to reduce the photo sizes?

Thanks for sharing the pics! I have been wanting to take Scottie camping for the past year, but we never made it last year. We actually camp in tents lol... I noticed that you brought some xpen/barriers. That's such a good idea. I'm so worried about them getting into trouble...or wild animals :confused:

Any other tips? I hadn't figured out how to clean them up a bit before taking them into the tent to sleep with us at night lol (bring a bucket to wash feet?)

Canana, I think the wild animals can probably take care of themselves around your little ones, but it's very considerate of you to keep your little ones in check--just in case...!

I love your babies, camping use to be so much fun we went every weekend when my children were small...we used tents, truck campers before buying a place on the water...have fun :)

I haven't gone camping recently, but this summer we probably will.

Leaving is a bit of an ordeal for me because I have lots of exotic pets- they require complex and specific care to be happy and healthy. I get nervous leaving them and haven't gone for even one night in over a year. I'm leaving for the first time in july, just one night, but so nervous! I can only take one of the dogs, too, my service dog Kaira, because the other two can be a bit rowdy.

Kaira does go fishing with me a lot and she loves that. And hiking. I am sure she will enjoy camping too.

Oh, mushroom hunting sounds like fun! What a lovely way to see the woods.

I am also struggling with resizing now that I had to download Windows 10. It dumped my PhotoScape program which I loved for resizing. I finally figured out that the program it came with is Paint ad that will resize. Ahhh!

We put up three xpens outside which gives us enough room to put some chairs in there also. I learned all this from my mentor on YT. Honestly, the girls are not outside the rv unless I am because of wild animals, etc. I think the same thing would be true with tent camping.


I always say the weirdest things can happen so best to be extra careful.

I do think it is complicated trying to leave home to go somewhere. I am sure things will be okay and imagine you have a good pet sitter.

My SO is staying with them this time so that it won't be too hard on me...but the next time, he's going with. I think we're going to have his mom stay with them, the dogs know her and we can teach her about the tegu (huge lizard) so she can care for him too. The other stuff is not hard, just tossing food into cages and filling waters, but the tegu and dogs are difficult.

I don't see a link for a size reduction program.... after this recent debacle and waste of effort, I'm ready to try another one now. I tried a few years ago, I hated the process, it was horrible, crop crop crop, and all of these copies of the same photos everywhere, very messy. I did look at paint again after this failed attempt... nothing in my paint program will do it clean, just crop crop crop to get it smaller. Need something simple, "reduce size to x type program" and put it somewhere else when done, separate file... don't want them mixed with originals.
