| Searching for the right Yorkie Hello, We are looking to add a yorkshire terrier puppy to our family. I have contacted several breeders that are within 4-5 hours driving distance from me ( I live in Buffalo NY) and so far I haven't had any luck. I have all summer off so I was hoping to add a new puppy soon so I would be able to give all my attention to the newest addition. The breeders that I have heard back from are having new litters this month and by the time the puppy is ready, It would be early/mid august. My summer ends last week of August and do not feel it would be fair to introduce a new puppy into the family when I cannot dedicate 100% of my time getting him/her familiarized with my family. If anybody knows of reputable breeders who have puppies that are ready to go (12weeks old or so) I would really appreciate getting some info. I am not looking for teacup yorkies, or yorkies on the small side. I want a healthy, standard sized (more towards the 7lb range?), well tempered puppy that can spend his/her life with us. I am willing to drive out up to 6 hours. I want to visit the breeder and see what the environment is like etc so i know im getting a puppy from a good breeder with good intentions. Thank you very much! |

| update: I've emailed 37 breeders across NY, NJ, MD, PA, OH, VA, MD, FL, CT, IN, MI and MA. I've gotten 21 responses and still haven't found a puppy yet. I am getting so discouraged and so sad Several breeders just had a litter but that means they wont be ready until August, which doesn't leave much time for me to dedicate myself 24/7 to the dog all day and all night and I feel it wont be fair for the new puppy. If anybody knows a great breeder that has puppies ready to go now or in June, I would really appreciate some referrals please. Thank you kindly. |

| The AKC yorkie standard is 4-7 pounds just so you know Good luck finding a breeder! I searched too but in the end, my husband ended up flying to get ours and it was the best decision ever. He is amazing Do your research and go with your gut! My best advice after being down this road before is to consider going with someone active in show breeding and who doesn't mind you asking a million questions. |

| Check the akc or breed club website for upcoming shows in your area . Most likely the breeders there ( some are open to chatting) between rounds will be able to point you in the right direction.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Was going to recommend you check out breeders who are willing to fly their pups to you, in cabin...but it looks like you're covered.

| I'm glad you found your baby. I found my little girl from a wonderful show breeder not far north of the border from you. She came highly recommended from my dear friend who also got her Yorkie from her and trains with her. It's something to consider if you ever get another Yorkie. There's no question that is what I'd do if I am able to get a sibling for Katie.
