| My Yorkie's Colors Hello Everyone i have a quick question.......I have a 8 month old Male Yorkie and when we first got him....he was the usual Black and Tan coloring that they all start of with as babies........He was Jet Black with a Rich Tan coloring on his Paw, his Muzzle, and a little on his ears.......as he gets older i am noticing that his color is looking really Pale and Dull......we keep him in a puppy cut.....however when we let his hair grow out it becomes a dull pale greyish color on his back.....but when we cut it down its all black underneath........most of the black hair in his face is fading away there is still some there but not as much as when. He was a few months old.......im not understanding why his face is turning this dull pale silverish color.......i can see some Gold strands here and there but nothing major......even the gold strands on his head and back of his ears are a dull color...........will he stay this way???.......we were hoping to have him turn into that Rich Gold coloring that most Yorkies head and legs turn to.........is this common??.......will he eventually lose this pale dull color and turn into that rich gold and dark steel blue that most yorkies are known for????..........did any of your yorkies look dull and pale at some point?.........thanks Yorkie Talk for your feedback........i have posted a few pics so you can get a idea of what im talking about |

| Yorkies come in different shades and colours. Really good breeders work hard to get the colours they're known for (and other ideal qualities). It takes years and years to achieve a champion bloodline pedigree. However, even when breeding the best with the best, the litter can still sometimes differ from how the parents look. So, when these really good breeders breed from only the best, the ones they sell as pets will generally not have the perfect qualities. It's just that you have a higher chance of getting a beautiful Yorkie from a good breeder. Then there are the other breeders who aren't breeding for the better of the breed, in which case there are definite no guarantees. In any case, he's only 8 months. Their colours change during the first 2 to 3 years of their lives! So in short, no, he won't stay this way. Having said that, I wouldn't be too concerned or insistent about achieving certain "rich gold & dark steel blue" colours - it's nature's doing and not really up to you . And...I don't find his colouring "dull" at all.

| Not dull at all! Your puppies have a lot color changes still to come. My boys are full brothers. Max started off very dark, while Teddy was almost white blonde on his head. They both have goldish heads as adults. Teddy's saddle is more silver, whereas Max is the really dark steel blue.

| Ah you little one's coat is still maturing. It can take a year or so for the full colors to be out. I think the longest it took was about a year and a half for one of our past yorkies. Granted when ya keep the coat short it may seem like sooner. Funny thing was our past two yorkies were listed with coats opposite of each other lol Like our boy was suppose to be black and tan, he grown into a blue/gold, and past our girl was blue/gold but grew into a black and tan. lol Luckily my little Kimchi is pretty much still what she is, a black/gold and she's almost two year old. She does have some dust of blue/silver and even some cream colors around her legs.
