I know this is an older post, but I had to answer. I tell people chewie chose ME. I picked her out in a room with other puppies. Yorkie-poo (which I came for, actually!) Black poodle, maltese, and a few other ones. Downstairs. Upstairs was the breeder's own puppies, which were 7 week morkies. CUTE little things, too! Not ready to go home in the least, but were available to choose and put down a deposit.

That look on her face. I still remember it and it brings a huge smile to my face. Dan was adamant on that yorkie poo. Half of that was due to a friend of his with a yorkie mix, who wasn't trained and has the run of the house. Consequently, she's a handful. Her look. That's what was the best part. I would NOT budge. I got a curly black poodle put in my arms multiple times that my daughter adored. Nope!!!! I got that Chewie was more expensive. Dan was afraid of how laid back she was. He waited, and finally she greeted the other puppies and her other humans in the house. We picked her up that second and took her home. She got a booster right there, and she didn't cry out. she was frightened of EVERYTHING. She didn't make a peep. Not even a week later. I took her to the vet, and she got more energetic after her eye meds, but still, tail tucked under a bit, wouldn't leave the living room. No walking.

I remember the posts here. I got told that it was the quiet before the storm. she ADORED laying on her humans. That was the first 3 weeks.

Now? She playfully growls, yelps loudly to get attention, begs like an Olympic champion. She tries chasing cats and other dogs. She's afraid of NOTHING. She barks excitedly when my daughter or myself doesn't throw the toy or ball fast enough. She's SO smart, she also helps make our beds!!! If I'm gone for more than an hour I get a squeal of happiness that is SO long and tugs at my heart strings! We took her to doggy day care since she loves dogs and hated walks (at the time) and all she learned was to climb the stairs. I'll NEVER forget the day she climbed up them. I felt her fur on my leg, and her little ears were laid back in excitement, and that tiny tail going a mile a minute. She's recently shown she doesn't like my daughter "sneak picking her up" and took a snap at her hand and yelped. While that wasn't okay, I also didn't say NO to her. She did NOT bite her, she warned her. That's fine. She's also done that one other time when my daughter touched me during our cuddle time. I did reprimand her at that point.

But quiet and calm????? HA! Maybe calm when she's unsure, like at the vet, but based on her last yelp with the bordatella? That's going away, too. I said GOOD GIRL!!! for the yelping and I'm certain the vet thought I was nuts. She also HATES being cuddled unless it's on HER terms. I encourage the vocalization, the refusal of cuddles, and the no, no petting right now. That wasn't like that a month ago.

She's laid back- don't get me wrong, but her personality is almost totally different than what it was. The breeder was great. She told me how calm her siblings and herself were. My best guess is that she wasn't suited for the life she was living. I don't think she got to eat enough or drink enough, based on her behavior during feeding. We hand feed her, but she still is very high strung about that.

I said all of this to say, no, unfortunately in my experience, you don't KNOW if the puppy is a cuddler. I suspect that Chews WILL be one later on, but right now, no. She has complex moods, she has a long memory, she's intelligent, sweet, sensitive, and just the best darn puppy ever.

If I wasn't disabled, and my husband wasn't working from home, I don't think that I could have been the type of owner she needs. These little guys react when their humans leave out of order, and sometimes even when they don't. She is MY shadow, but, any one else she doesn't like not seeing. You have to be committed to sinking a great deal of time into her or him. I can't imagine not having a yorkie- and in particular chewie- in my life. I don't have time to myself most days. I'm able to do this right now, since she's having cuddle time with my daughter and napping like she does every afternoon. Every single moment is a joy with her, and it's worth it. I researched all four breeds- mixes or not- I was interested in. I didn't do nearly enough, and I'm learning still. If you can see yourself sinking time and not having any to yourself for at least the first year- maybe longer- then you won't regret having one of these little sweeties. They are, without a doubt, the BEST dogs ever. Yes, it's been a bit costly. We've double covered her because of it. If your vet has a program like that, then I suggest double coverage- vet and pet insurance.

I picked her up at almost 14 weeks. She's now a few days shy of 6 months.

I don't know if you picked one up yet or not, but... one of the best decisions I've ever made was putting her in my husband's arms and telling him to hold Chewie. that look, it took 20 seconds to know she was mine. My husband corrects me all the time saying YOU are her's! He's right. I'm going to check to see if you've picked up a puppers. Sorry for the long winded response, but, I wanted to tell you what I've learned!
