My Yorkie loves his old master more than me Hi. I have a Yorkie and he was given to me by a friend. My friend had him when he was 2 months old and had to give him away because they are moving in to a place where pets aren't allowed. I adopted my Yorkie when he was 9 months old. Occasionally, my friend borrows him for a day or two. When she returns him to me, I notice that he gets sad. He even howls sometimes. I would like to know if this is a healthy activity for him. I know he will never forget his first master but is it possible for him to have two masters? Seeing him sad after my friend returns him makes me sad too since I know he doesn't feel that sad when he's away from me. He's already 2 years old and I've already had him longer. Also, I would like to know if him getting borrowed from time to time confuses him.

My older boy who is 15 this year is very bonded with my sister. She would come over on the weekends almost every week and he is just obsessed with her... He follows her wherever she goes. He's sad to see her leave and she takes him for over night visits every now and then but he's happy to come home. I'm not sure why he loves her so... I'm the one that feeds him, walks him, grooms him etc... But it's quite something to see the connection. I say that they are soul mates... Bc the way he cries out in sheer joy when she walks into the house is just so amazing. I wouldn't cut off your little one from seeing her first owner if they have a strong bond. Maybe he just gets sad for a little while and you can give him a special treat or something when he comes back home to you? We have a routine when he comes home. He gets a tiny piece of cheese and a small biscuit and then we go for a little walk so he gets to mark and pee all over his "home turf" and although he looks for her when we get back inside, he does settle back down. I'm a stay home mom so lately I've been keeping him during the day and then she picks him up after work for a sleepover and then drops him off again in the morning. This only works for us bc we literally live down the road from each other. But if one of us moved it would be hard for me to not let her take him maybe for longer periods of time. He is just so very happy and content to be with her. Ive just accepted that he's a one person kind of dog and I would never interfere with that love connection. I think it's why he's still so healthy! You would never know he's 15! Looks like a 5 year old... No blindness or any aging issues.

Personally, that would absolutely break my heart, to see HIM so distraught when she returns him to me....I would not let this continue...give this baby time to realize his former mistress is NOT abandoning him....that his new home is with YOU!!! He will never forget or get over her if she is still interacting with him on little outings.... I have a couple I sold a little girl to 7 years ago....I have been to their home 3 times since I sold her to them 7 years ago, to deliver some vitamins, some dog food, and some pads....the last time I was there was just a couple years ago.....that baby remembers me to this day! She is sooooooooooooo excited to see me! Now she makes it very clear she remembers me, goes all gooey and crazy and running and kissing-kissing-kissing......she even remembers the sound of my car, and goes nuts when I pull into the driveway......but she will keep looking over her shoulder to make sure her current momma and daddy are still there with her and so they know that SHE knows I am a long lost momma-friend she remembers, but is not going to go home with.
