| Yorkie Yakker | How do I stop my 2 year old female Micro teacup Yorkie, from, I am not quite sure how to put this...Humping...her 5 month old sister, also a micro teacup yorkie. Roxie the 2 year old is 3 pounds, Lexi, the 5 month old is 2.2 pounds. Neither of them has been spade. Someone said this is natural, but Lexi doesn't like it and goes to bite Roxie.

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Many dogs will engage in some humping behavior before and after being fixed. Whenever you see the behavior, I'd just stop it and re-direct it toward a "stuffed lover dog"...keep doing that over and over. And, also let Lexi put Roxie in her place too. Just fyi, btw, there is no such thing in the yorkie breed as a "teacup" or a "micro" - these are just marketing terms used by unscrupulous breeders who are trying to get more money for their "product". Using those terms has been extremely damaging to this beloved breed . Any yorkie that is 7lbs or less is just considered a standard yorkie by the breed standard - there is no separate weight class for 2 or 3 pound yorkies...no such thing. Just fyi.

				   | My 2 males are neutered 6 and 7 year old adults. Teddy humps Max a little when he gets excited, general happy excitement. We use a happy voice to say, "Teee-ddddy, no!" He quits and doesn't feel scolded. I agree with Ann's advice too, directing to a plush toy. Anything to redirect attention will help and may lessen Roxie's tendency to go for Lexi even when you are not supervising.

				   | Some do, some don't. Mario has never been into humping. My airedale does on occasion when he is around a dog big enough. They were both neutered around one year old. I tend to think this is more a dominance behaviour rather than a mating instinct.

				   | My two 4 month old brothers hump each other. The vet said it's a natural behavior, but you need to redirect them to new activities. I start playing with their toys and it seems to get them to come play with me.

				   | My pup doesn't. I know most people are ok with the behavior, but I'm not. I simply stopped him from the very beginning and he doesn't try anymore. It was consistently a no every time he tried, and then redirected him to a different activity. Call me a fuddy duddy if you want, but i just don't like or allow that behavior.
