So Gizmo will be 12 weeks this Thursday. He's been doing wonderful with potty training. He poops on the pad even if somehow its folded in half or awkward he poops right on it. When we take him peepee he will pee on the pad after naps and ever hour or so. He whimpers when we are holding him and he has to go. No accidents in the car. Generally super proud of him. He's been so awesome.
However this last week he's been tinkling on the bed or going UNDER our bed and doing it there. We take him to the pad and he goes on it about 50% of the time.
We "punish" like all the forums here say. Have used spray and make sure he knows where to pee. Still acting like he doesn't have to go then he wanders off playing with us or whatever and bam he decides to pee elsewhere.
Help!!! Ha-ha

Could he have a bladder infection?

Any changes in his or your routine????

No none. Vet says he thinks he's just young and not all the way there yet. He said set backs are common. Has that happened to anyone else?

12 weeks is still way to early to be 100%. Even at 6 months I'd say you'd be ahead of the game. I think first is to get a pad holder. It creates a lip around the pad that he has to step over so it's easier for him to know when he's on the pad. It also keeps a playful puppy from flipping it over.

Another really important thing is so limit where he can roam until much later. Some here still limit where their dogs can go even years later. Get baby gates, keep bedroom doors closed, etc. As he gets better you can give more and more space.

I agree with capt_noonie 12 weeks old is way to young to expect baby to be 100% pad trained. Limit his space. My now passed pups were 100% pad trained by 5 months, and completely house broken at 7 months. I kept wee-wee pads in 2 places when my babies were wee little pups, one was in their confined area. The other was in the living room. They were allowed in that room ONLY if I was there. If they had an accident I would blot up the pee with the pad, put the pad back where it belonged, pick up the pup, place her on the pad and tell her, "pee-pee" on the pad. NO punishment, if you do not have a small area to confine him in I suggest an x-pen with his bed, food, water toys and pee pad when you cannot supervise him. He SHOULD NOT have the run of the house at 12 weeks old. Like capt_noonie suggested, close all doors that lead to other rooms, keep him confined to an area where you can watch him.

YESSSS!!! Assuming no medical issues, just remain persistent and consistent and your little one will be potty trained. The tricked is you have to be more stubborn than they are.
