hi: my family purchased a female yorkie with thin almost balding hair on her head. the seller assured us that it will grow thicker with age (she is approx. 8 weeks old). could someone share some insight on this? thanks so much.

my both my males had very thin hair on top of their heads,i could see their skin through it.One of them now has an Afro!(massive bush of hair), however the other still has thin hair,it thickened a tiny bit,but you can still see his skin,i think it all just depends on the dog, really

My little 8-week old arrived looking bald on the top of his head also. On closer examination - I noticed that "yes, his hair was thin," but what made him look more bald than he was - was that the roots of the hair on the top of his head were a white/silver color. This made it look like we were seeing his scalp - but rather we were seeing these light-colored roots. So - check the roots... ****** I'm sure you don't have to worry about a thing.... My pup (with his thin puppy hair) is several months older now and has beautiful, much thicker hair. The hair on his head is a beautiful, thick, golden tan. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I copied this for you from the article about Yorkies' hair ---- it has made a lot of people feel better about their puppy's thin hair....... "A puppy whose coat appears sparse or thin will, as an adult, have a thick, long coat of the correct fine silky, glossy texture. This coat’s growth is like a human’s hair, in that it is born with very little, but by adulthood will an abundance of hair, the quantity having doubled and redoubled all during puppyhood (or childhood) . . . " --------------------------------------------------------------------- This makes it sound like - what we want in a pup - is thin, sparse hair. Because, this is the type of hair that becomes what we want when they become adults. So - count yourself lucky! And, don't worry! Carol Jean

Me again -- my pup's most thin area was the top if its head also.... I'm still sure you have nothing to worry about. I've never seen a bald Yorkie -and I've seen a hundred posts by people who are worried about the hair on thier pup's head being thin. Carol Jean

ceeby was eight weeks when I got him. I thought the hair on top between his ears was really thin. he looked like he was going bald then almost immediately, he turned silver and got a lot more hair on top. My latest addition was nine weeks old when I got her and has very thick wavy hair all over her body and especially her head. She is almost five months old now and has just started "breaking' her silver. Whereas, Ceeby started turning around nine or ten weeks. But the thin hair is normal I think.

I bought a little girl (Millie) in Dec., immediately after getting her I notice that her hair was so thin I could see her skin without any problem. The top of her head was so sparse that I couldn't get a rubber around her hair to place a bow on her head and I bought the smallest rubber bands I could find. She literally looked like a rat. But, at 4 months old I started to see a change, now at 7 months she has grown the silkiest smoothest hair I have ever seen, its still a little thin but I can see that its going to fill out. I don't see any skin anymore and I see lots of little hairs growing in.
