PLEASE HELP! Puppy aggressive towards child.

My Izzy will be 2 in February i do believe, and let me tell you, if it's the little version of ANYTHING, she is not down to tolerate it. From a weebly wobbly baby Chihuahua, a baby, toddler, or small child, a small person ( midget) to mini drones... She ain't having no part of it.My friend Shay has a 3 year old boy who is the calmest most unchildlike kid I've ever encountered, and even though he came in without a word in Shays arms, half asleep, and sat with her never even showing interest in the dogs or moving around much to speak of, Izzy was just growling and barking at him like he was the enemy. But now 2 years later, he is the only child she'll sit next to without becoming s**tty. And strangely enough Izzy is the only dog he asks about when they are coming to visit. funny huh? My others pups are fine with kids, etc... But Izzy just doesn't trust anything small, and especially smaller than her. No clue why. She's a bit of an enigma that way.

I believe that aggression is actually fear and Yorkies are very small and perceive adults and children as very large. When you add unpredictable or inconsistent behavior, such as that of children, you get a fearful Yorkie.

Yorkies need to be trained and socialized with children. I always think that aggression is, in part, due to the lack of education by the owners and children and the Yorkie gets all of the blame which isn't right.

I would suggest a behaviorist or a trainer so that everyone, including yourselves and the Yorkie, can learn how to communicate with one another. I did this when my Yorkie was 8 months old and, if nothing else, learned the power of communication between species.

Lmao! Izzy is funny! I wonder why that is. I kind of wish Beowulf was like that so I don't have to worry about kids taking him and treating him like a ragdoll

Maybe you need to be like Izzy with your children before Beowulf has a fractured leg or something much worse. I have seen things happen to pups who were drug around by children that were so sad....some died due to head injuries. Fractures can be fixed but the pup suffers and so does the owner's bank account (IF they choose to repair them) I don't think people realize how dangerous this is.

Lol No worries dear I don't have children. I have an 8 yr old step son who is careful with him but its his 3 yr old little sister, she hardly comes around but when she does (only twice so far) She grabs him up and is just all over the place with him and both times I made her cry cause I kept telling her to sit down with him and everyone including my bf was looking at me like I'm being overprotective and treating him like a newborn. I finally convinced my bf that he is a fragile little thing and hopefully he will back me up next time I tell the little girl something.

If he doesn't I would not be a happy camper. What you described is an accident waiting to happen. Leg fractures can cost thousands....it is not a simple put a cast on the limb kind of thing. They need surgery and it is not cheap. A fall on the head can be fatal.

You are NOT being overprotective at all! I would not stand for it. That child will really be crying if she drops Izzy and hurts her...."everyone" needs to be on the same page. This is not a stuffed animal. I would talk with them before the fact...set limits and everyone should enforce it.

Whether or not your bf backs you up, your little one totally counts on you for his safety. The little girl needs to show you respect and therefore Beowolf; and besides, to hell with how anybody looks at you. If your protecting your beloved pet is being overly whatever, fine! At least he is safe from harm. Personally, no one--young or old--is going to 'grab' Piper and/or be 'all over the place' with her...Next time your stepdaughter visits, I would not let her hold Beowolf, period. And if your little guy is not with you, then he should be safely ensconced away from visitors. Again, you are his safety and security and he trusts you to keep him safe and secure! Sorry for the rant, I'm sure you know, feel, and, as a rule do all that's necessary (plus) to keep Beowolf happy and healthy.
