Thank you. Anything else I should do? |

Yorkies have a huge problem with their teeth. From what I've read it's because of their small mouth. From others I've met on the street, the first thing they ask me is if my yorkie still has his teeth. The first time I heard that, I thought it was bizarre, thinking, of course he does! But then, almost all of these strangers told me that by the time theirs was 2 or 3, their yorkies lost most or all their teeth! I was worried and did a lot of reading and to some degree what they've said is quite true. I didn't want Scottie to suffer and not have teeth for his whole life so I brush very regularly (every day or at least 5 times a week), despite the fact that he hates it. If Lady Bug is already 1.5 years, and if she hasn't been used to having her teeth brushed, you may have some challenges. Just be patient...and continue to try. Take it slow (clicker training works great with treats), reward lots afterwards with some form of positive reinforcement, and good luck!! If you're consistent, she'll get used to it soon enough (even though she may hate it). She'll thank you for it later (plus gets rid of the bad bad yorkie breath haha). p.s. Merry Christmas!! |
sweet Lady Bug I just eagerly read this post and Lady Bug is so lucky to have you; wanting to have everything right for her! What a sweet name:aimeeyork Wanting to hear how your first couple of days went with her, I was a tad disappointed that you haven't posted since you've gotten her:( Did I miss something? When we got Bailey we were SO excited. Of course he was younger than yours when he came to our home. He is now 3yo (in Jan.) and every day is still like Christmas when we wake up and he's here!! Knowing from my own experience, these dogs are the cutiest in the world. Of course this in my humble opinion:) All the best with Lady Bug and hope to see an update... soon. This is such a busy time for all, so I will check back early '16. Can't wait! |

Sorry for not posting! I have posted on other of my threads though. I can't keep track! Lol. Ladybug is doing well. I have to retrain her to use her potty pads. Kinda disappointed with that but it is what it is. Lol. She uses the pads when she's in her small area that is her crate and a small area outside of her crate. But I tried to make her area larger and she went on the floor instead of her potty pads. So I put pads down everywhere and I guess I'll remove them one by one and give treats when she uses them. When she went on the floor she ran to her crate. So I think she knew she shouldn't have gone on the floor. This is new to me because I've always had dogs that pottied outdoors. Any suggestions??? |
Piper was about three when I brought her home about 1 1/2 yrs ago; I, too, was told she was housebroken, but not so much! Anyway, it appeared she had puppies shortly before coming to me and I believe she didn't have much, if any, training of any kind. No matter, I fell in love with her immediately and love her more every day. Anyway, Piper is just now what I consider to be housebroken, but still iffy when I'm not home. Just be consistent, patient, keep your sense of humor, and give tons and tons of praise with whatever reward(s), Lady Bug responds to...Piper is food motivated and receives a little bite of chicken when she does her business outside. For awhile there, I was almost resigned and truly believed Piper would never get it, didn't care about getting it, and would remain forever UN-housebroken--But don't give up!!! As I said, persistence and patience go along way! You and Lady Bug will succeed in all kinds of ways! |
I'm in the same situation you were in! Ladybug has had very little training. She's not food motivated at all. She won't eat treats either. I just pick her up and rub her belly and kiss her and she seems to love that. |

Oh, I didn't think to check for other updates. Thanks for replying here! Glad to hear that you and Ladybug are making new connections. As others before me, patience in potty training. Sometimes I found myself thinking that Bailey wouldn't get going outside, but he did catch on. When I put newspaper in his corral, he would ripe them up at times. A tad frustrating for sure. He did catch on though and now there are the odd accidents and mostly he runs to the door to go outside. Ladybug will get it and as time passes, and then you may find it hard to remember when she went inside. |
