| Welcome to Yorkie Talk! Little Yorkies, especially puppies, often need special attention to their back ends to make sure they stay clean and unobstructed. Sometimes full anal glands can be a problem. Some dogs express them naturally and some need help. Sometimes a diet change can help. If the glands become bothersome, the dog may scoot or hide in pain. Then the glands need to be manually expressed and possibly checked by a vet to rule out infection or impaction. Other possibilities for difficulty pooping include constipation (a warm soak of the back end can help), bowel obstruction, irritable bowel, and a couple of rare conditions. Has your pup seen a vet for a wellness check? I'm guessing vaccinations are also needed since he is only 8 weeks, so I would have the vet take a look at his back end.

| Pooping problems. Thanks for the information. I have been cleaning him after each time he poops with the oatmeal wipies, and have had to use warm water to disolve the poop on his back side on a couple occassions. He is due for a Vet check this week. He has had his first set of shots and is due shortly for the next set. I will ask the Vet about this as well. I thought maybe this was a common problem that others were having. |

| It is a common problem. Because they have a lot of hair it just seems the poo gets stuck easier. You can have the hair trimmed and that will help. It's really important to keep their little bottoms clean. When Peanut was little, he would yelp and run like something was after him if he had a little piece of poop that stuck to his bottom hair.

| Welcome to YT:) So sorry you are having rear end issues, I know you babies do not like stuff stuck to that area. As you are so young I wonder if your diet has enough fiber in it to keep things moving along, so to speak? Perhaps a little plain pumpkin with your food might help? But as someone posted earlier, your anal glands may be full or inflamed? Hope this gets better soon and that your vet visit is not too stressful for you. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What are you feeding and did you switch food or anything? I'd most def have the vet check everything out next time you're there. In the meantime, you may want to sprinkle water on his dry food and/or ad a bit of coconut oil to the diet too. Welcome to YT !
