Input on grooming styles Hi! So my little gal is a year now. I have been keeping her on the long haired side, especially face/neck area. While it is precious, I do feel after bathing or grooming, she starts to look scruffy very quickly. I bathe her every other week bc she does tend to get dry despite using high quality conditioners. I am wondering if some of you could share photos of an in between style? I don't want her super short, NY winter coming up. help! Thanks!! |
1 Attachment(s) I like Piper toss-ly so I'm of no help really. I do ask my groomer to leave the hair long on her little melon and just trim body coat. Carolyn took it upon herself to shave Piper's little legs so (I think) it looks like she's wearing caprice pants---too, too cute (no good picture). I finally realized that Piper is only going to look super-soft and well-kempt for about a day after the groomers and after that it's a quick brush with a spritz of conditioner so she smells as sweet as she is and looks presentable when we run errands. Below is a picture of Piper back from groomer--I had requested bath-only and the result is a puffed-out-Piper; needless to say, upcoming visit will include trim! But still, I just love that kinda messy, tossly, zingy look on Pipe and gotta say, we're both a little goofy so it all works for us! |
awwww so precious!! I understand what you mean :) They are so darn cute that no matter what the style, they are just adorable. |
2 Attachment(s) Oops, here's an "in-between" Piper. Your little girl is just gorgeous, by the way--beautiful! |
ooh love all the pics!! just beautiful. Thank you! |
Will love to see pictures of whatever "look" you decide on for your adorable little girl, Lovestiny! She has the most precious face and oh my those big dark eyes--love! Bet it's hard to say no to her! |
Lol!! It's funny, we are SO ridiculously in love with this little one, but we have her pretty well trained so it always surprises people bc they assume she must be a spoiled yappy gal! She's actually pretty fabulous though :) trying to figure out how to post a recent pic of my little darling... |
Pretty fabulous?! She is totally fabulous and well-trained, too? How wonderful! My little Piper is perfect--not yappy or anything, but she came to me rather shy and very sensitive, so no sit, stay training, per se. But she's such a good little girl that I haven't wanted to push. Eagerly awaiting pictures of your smart and stunning little girl...What's her name? |
Awww Piper sounds like a little darling. Ella is my baby. She actually is on the shy side too. Ok, hoping this pic will load |

Awe thanks! |
Just had to tell you your little Ella is a doll!!:)and she has the sweetest face. So know matter what style you choose she's going to be precious!! |
Wow! Ella (cute name) is even more beautiful now! I like her jewelry (I make necklaces for Pipe for our forays out...just for fun). Lovely little girl that Ella!!! |
I've shown this image before on another post (the link below) and still think this is the cutest cut. This isn't my yorkie girl but I had wanted her to have this sort of cut. Since you're keeping yours on the longer side, perhaps the way the cut is around the face may work and leaving the body. I keep my girl's muzzle short like this pic and it's helped with make cleaning her face and keeping it cleaner easier. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/att...48fcb53851.jpg This may also be an interesting suggestion, but have you tried to use coconut oil or some sort of natural "smoothing/anti-frizz/shine" serum? Something that you would apply after the bath or after she dries. That should help keep her hair a bit more manageable and a little more neater looking. |
To Lunarberry. That is a really cute cut. I need to print it for when our Mitzi is older. She is 6 months now. |
2 Attachment(s) I am attaching a couple of pictures of our beloved Zeus. We cut his hair ourselves and always leave the legs and head long. Living in Mississippi, we did cut his body super short for the summer, but he is on the grow. In these pictures, his body hair is not too short. |

1 Attachment(s) Attachment 407702 This is Turbo, his hair was to the floor. It gets very hot here in SoCal, so he got a cool haircut in the summer. As that grew out, his hair around the mouth kept going inside his mouth when he eats, so I gave him an Asian inspired cut. During the winter, I grow all their hair out. It doesn't get that cold here, but when it's chilly, they do wear clothes. The longer the body hair, the more they tend to tangle. So I keep the body part short & grow their leg hairs out. You can do so many different hairstyles on them, all of them will look cute. Turbo is such a cutie---love his name and I have a feeling it suits him! |

Thank you jkpal!!! We try really hard. Our little baby is on the sensitive, docile, sweet side and just hates the groomers. Even though he doesn't like when we do it either, he does feel safer getting to be picked up immediately after and given shuggies and love. There is no reciprocated love like that of a dog! |
OOH thank you all! Your babies are all SO cute, I love seeing all the pics!! Thanks for that link turbo's mama |
He has really pretty hair. I think the short under the chin is a great idea! Looks wonderful! |
The previous post was for Turbo ..BTW! |
LOL yes I know. no one could mistake my lil ella for a boy ;-) |
1 Attachment(s) I love Turbo's 'do! It totally fits his little face! It's funny because I feel like every Yorkie is different in what cuts they can pull off, etc, I guess it's just like people. With Jackson, the short shaved down look just "fits" him and I can't imagine him any other way. I like to keep his face 'rounded' though if that makes sense. But like I love Maximo's Teddy & Max and their longer style and it totally FITS them but Jax just couldn't pull it off, same with Nancy's Joey and his famous "joey cut"... looks adorable on him, but I could never do it on Jax lol. He's also a bigger boy, active, always getting dirty. I like low maintnence. I'll be honest sometimes I go without giving him 1 bath in between groomings every 8 weeks LOL. |
1 Attachment(s) I like to keep mine on a puppy cut because it's easier to maintain and wash, I bathe him once a week. I just keep the face and chest part a little longer. But winter is approaching and I am planning on letting his hair grow a little longer. And I am planning on bathing him every other week. Attachment 407732 |
I keep Emma in long coat and agree that it can be a task. I bathe once a week and have found that to keep her from not getting grimy/grundgy looking. I use Pantene conditioner and helps keep her from matting and not looking oily. |

Which Pantene conditioner do you use on Emma? |
