hi guys- my update is-I took her to my groomer (who I adore) but he cut her soooo short. Head to toe. shaved her. I guess I wasn't clear enough in my request of exactly what I was requesting (body trimmed and just face shorter). But now my main question is, how long will it take to grow back? Winter is coming and I am a little sad that she is shaven. Plus I do not like how short he did her face :( I know this is not a huge deal because she is wonderful and healthy, but looking for a little support. thanks. |

It sure is easier to keep them neat with short hair tho' |
The only thing I can think of is that he misunderstood me :( it's a bit upsetting. A while like how long? Six months? Just in time for summer lol |
1 Attachment(s) I'm so sorry your groomer misunderstood how you wanted Ella's hair cut. It happened to me years ago, and it's very upsetting. The good news is that the hair usually grows in nicer once it has been shaved. My Katie is bigger than your baby, probably about ten inches tall. It really depends also on whether Ella has a silky or more cottony coat. Katie's hair is silky, which takes longer to grow, but it is unusually thick for a silk coat. I live fairly close to you, and Katie is much too hot in the summer with her hair long. She is so much happier with her hair shorter, so I cut her hair, and even in the winter she does better. She has a few cashmere sweaters that keep her warm on our long walks, and her jackets and coats are made for winters in Finland. Sometimes when the temperature is well below freezing, I layer a cashmere sweater under her coats. She is definitely warm enough, even for walks that are two to three miles in weather I find really cold. I'm posting from my iPad, which only allows one photo to post, so I will have to post my photos separately which will show how much hair grew when Katie's flank was shaved. This first photo was taken the weekend she just joined our family. She was with her breeder for her first three years. Her other mom gave her this haircut before she left. It was taken Mother's Day weekend 2012. |
1 Attachment(s) This was taken three months later in August of that same year. |
1 Attachment(s) This is Katie six months after her hair was cut. You can see the shorter hair blending in with the longer hair. |
1 Attachment(s) This was after one year. Right after that, I cut her hair. It was beautiful, but Katie was always hot, even with air conditioning. Even the heat makes Katie too hot, and she was having trouble sleeping on the bed because of it. Once we cut her hair, she loves to cuddle. Katie is also a very active little girl who loves to run and fetch, and she will run into bushes to retrieve her ball, if need be. Months after Hurricane Sandy, Katie constantly had leaves and stickies stuck to her hair after playing. I wish I could keep Katie's hair long, but I know my little girl is so much happier without all of her thick hair. I'm not sure why her breeder kept her hair long after she finished her championship at fifteen months, but she still had her show coat at 2.5 years. I know Katie is much happier without as much grooming. Although she's very good when being groomed and pretty much all of the time, I know she's' not crazy about it. It's all about Kate and what makes her happy. I think she's beautiful, whether her hair is long or short, and she's even cuter with the shorter hair. I'm sure Ella is beautiful in her new haircut. |
1 Attachment(s) That same day a year after she joined our family. |
1 Attachment(s) Katie's long hair before she came to us at three years old. She is 2.5 years old here. |
1 Attachment(s) Here is one last photo, which was taken four months after I cut Katie's hair in May 2013. This photo was taken early October 2013. You can see that she's fluffy by now, and Ella will probably be more so if her hair is different from Katie's and also because she's smaller than my little girl. Your Ella is a little doll! |
I have another take on the trim. Is it possible there were some tangles close to the skin? My Pepper has a cottony coat and during one of his early groomings the groomer cut him pretty short. She said it was because there were some mats close to the skin and once they were cut out she had to even it up. Otherwise he would have looked chopped up. Now I know I can't let him get too long - plus I am not the most conscientious when it comes to brushing. |

Aww, she is precious . I love her tiny face ..:) |
I have two beautiful hair cut styles that I love but they were found on the web so I am afraid to post them! copy right infringement? Can anyone advise ? I love long hair but these two styles made me seriously consider a change. If any one can tell me if I can post these pictures , Plese let me know. I think I just googled cute yorkie hair cuts or something like that. |
Hi everyone- no, she wasn't badky matted. I just think for my groomer, maybe it's his norm when he does the head short, he does the body short. I will be very clear in the future. I adore him and I know he values our business. She is a silky soft type of feel, so I think she might take a while to grow. Luckily she loves clothes and I love buying them lol. |
Thank you my Oscar- she looks even tinier with her new do. Yesterday for HALLOWEEN, we put pig tails in and it was adorable with her tiny short face. |
Lisaly- your pup is delicious! |

Groomer or DIY? I am a new Yorkie owner, and my baby Ellie (just turned 6 months) loves being brushed, but HATES anything in her hair! She will walk under furniture, roll around, even recruit help from her sister (whom my parents have) to help get whatever I put in out. I've tried clips, tiny rubber bands, barrettes, and she hates them all. Her hair near her eyes doesn't seem to be long enough to get it up so she can see, but she looks shaggy (though adorable!) even with brushing & conditioning. I have been using a little neosporin (recommended by my vet) to keep the hair around her eyes down so she can see. I was going to let it grow for awhile & then decide what kind of cut I want....love her puppy look, but her colors have changed so much just as her hair has grown that I'm excited to see how she will turn out. When I brush her she has lines of color and it looks so cool, lol! I have not taken her to a groomer yet as I have only had her a little over 2 months & have been bathing her myself (once a week), trimming her butt, cleaning her ears and trimming her nails. We do "Pretty pretty Princess" - she comes running & lays on her pillow when I say it - brushing twice or more a day right now as she has been getting leaf pieces in her fur when her & her sister run and play outside. All the groomers near me have told me it will take 3hrs, and I am not comfortable with leaving her that long when it takes me 20-30 min for everything at home, including blow-drying! Her ears are curled most of the time - which I actually love, though her parents & siblings ears are all up and I wonder if it's because I have not trimmed the tops as I am nervous. Not sure what to do, would love some advice :-) I'll try to post some pics. |
Pics My pics are all too large, but I put them in an album on my page if anyone has a moment to look - I even did a little headband to keep her hair out of her eyes one day, worked better than anything else but was too big! |
